Bittersweet
Bittersweet: True North #1 | Sarina Bowen
Farmers make the earth move. The last person Griffin Shipley expects to find stuck in a ditch on his Vermont country road is his ex-hookup. Five years ago theyd shared a couple of steamy nights together. But that was a lifetime ago. At twenty-seven, Griff is now the accidental patriarch of his family farm. Even his enormous shoulders feel the strain of supporting his mother, three siblings and a dotty grandfather. He doesnt have time for the sorority girl whos shown up expecting to buy his harvest at half price. Vermont was never in Audrey Kidders travel plans. Neither was Griff Shipley. But she needs a second chance with the restaurant conglomerate employing her. Okaya fifth chance. And no self-righteous lumbersexual farmer will stand in her way. Theyre adversaries. They want entirely different things from life. Too bad their sexual chemistry is as hot as Audreys top secret enchilada sauce, and then some. Warning: Contains sexual situations, gourmet yumminess, a steamy outdoor shower and proof that farmers don't mind getting dirty. Keywords: Vermont, sexy romance, lumbersexuals, not cowboys, hard cider, good times, steamy kisses and homemade ice cream.

It‘s a fantastic grumpy/awkward sunshine romance with delicious sounding foods and a bucolic setting. There‘s some creative steamy scenes, wonderful characters and enough drama to keep you wondering what would happen next.

Audrey just wants her own restaurant, but she‘s paying her dues. And her current job is sending her to farmland Vermont for local produce for a restaurant group. Surprisingly she runs into her college fling, Griffin.

Finished the tagged book today. A cute, steamy, hard cider and food filled, found family romance. Griff is a grumpy cinnamon roll.

This book was ADORABLE! I seem to have a soft spot for chefs in romance books. I always end up loving them. Another 3hrs and 10 mins for #24B4Monday, making my total 28hrs 22m 🖤 This was also another book off of my monster sized #BookSpinBingo board. I won‘t end up clearing the section since I decided to leave the mysteries and thrillers for next months festivities 🥳

TheAromaofBooks Can't wait to hear your total number of books read out of the possible 75, though! 4y
Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks I think I‘m at a total of 60 for the month, but a good handful of them we‘re mood reads. 😝 4y

I am just OBSESSED with Sarina Bowen. I have read multiple 5 star books from her but this one is definitely my favorite. I love the strong independent personalities of both the characters, the Vermont farm setting, and the family relationships. I can't wait to continue on in the series.

I downloaded this #romantsy a while back when the e-book was free. It was so good! Perfect light read for a chilly fall day. I had half a mind to go to Vermont and track down a handsome apple farmer of my own
🍎🔥

Edit and PSA: Just checked and it's STILL free on Kindle and Nook!

julesG I have that on Google books, sadly it was not free for Kindle here in Germany. 6y
swishandflick @julesG Oh bummer! 6y

I got this book because it was free on kindle which is great since it didn‘t disappoint.

I loved reading about Griffin‘s love for Cider and his farm. The romance was great and not too sickly or overbearing. And there wasn‘t a lot of angst which is exactly what I was looking for at this moment.

Great characters and now I‘m hooked on a new series.

Reread! 🙌🏻 I can‘t impress upon you all how much I love Sarina‘s stories. Her books are my go-to rereads and I love them more with every read/listen.

My favorite things about this book are the Vermont farm setting and the way these characters talk about all-things-farm-and-cider-making. I love the way seasonal foods and recipes show up in the story since Audrey is a chef. And I want to know Griff‘s family and friends in real life. #romantsy

CoffeeK8 I loved this one, it‘s the only one of hers I‘ve read so far, I need to go back and read something else 6y

This was a lovely romance. The hero is a cider maker and farmer in Vermont and the heroine is a wanna-be chef. They had a history in college and are just so wonderful in the way they interact and communicate. 💖 #romantsy

I like this a lot, which doesn't surprise me because I've loved everything I've read by this author. This is first in the True North Series. A bit different than her other books because it doesn't feature sports.

(Grumpy) Griff is a farmer/cider maker. Audrey is an emerging chef. They have a past and a second chance at romance.

Love the rural Vermont setting. Love the way the story includes glimpses of farm life and cider making 🍏🍎

Chachic I enjoyed reading this one too. 7y

This is a hard one to rate, it was a super sweet rot-your-teeth kind of book. But I think I didn't give it a high rating, because it let me down at the end. Like I said, it was a super sweet cuddly read, it almost makes you want to hook up with paul bunyan farmer type. 😂 Ultimately a light read, no real angst or drama or big story line really. This book is just in the middle, I think, I didn't hate it or love it. Just a pleasant in between.

Sexy romance involving a bearded, organic farmer and an upbeat, ambitious chef. The descriptions of various meals were mouthwatering.

#bookanddinner: Sarina Bowen is an auto-read author for me ever since I fell in with her Ivy Years series. I just need to catch up on her newer releases! I really enjoyed this foodie romance which has an organic farmer for a hero. The heroine annoyed me a bit at the start but she eventually grew on me. Their chemistry is amazing, and there also had some sweet and cozy scenes together.

#romantsy #bookandtea #bookandbrew #LitsyCooks

EloisaJames I really like the series--never meant to learn so much about cider but I ordered some the other night for the first time! 7y
Chachic @EloisaJames I still need to read the two books following this one. LOL I've had cider before, maybe I should buy some again and have it while reading the sequels.😊 7y

I stayed up waaaaay to late with this one, but I should have seen that coming. Sarina Bowen's books always lead to that (while reading The Year We Fell Down I actually snuck away from work for ten minutes to get a few pages in 🙈). But this ticked all my boxes: hot, grumpy, marshmallow-center organic farmer trying to save his family's business and the sorority girl chef trying to find her way in the world? So good, so romantic and I just loved it!

Chachic I enjoyed reading this one too. I need to read the sequels. 8y
MeganB I think number 3 either just came out or is about to come out? But number two is Jude's book, so I'm thinking it's going to be super heartbreaking! 8y
Chachic I think the third book is about to come out. I've been a bad blogger, I have ARCs of both but haven't read or reviewed them yet. 8y
MeganB @Chachic ooo can't wait to know what you think! I haven't seen much about them here or on Twitter 8y

JoRead Ha! Great quote indeed 8y
raelaschoenherr Are you going to be reading the third book? I've never read this author but am intrigued at the story. Also wondering if I can jump in on book 3 in the series. 7y
MeganB @raelaschoenherr I am a little anal about reading in order and I haven't even gotten to book 2 yet! But keepsake sounds really good and the hero of that is a total sweetie in this one 7y
See All 6 Comments
raelaschoenherr I'm kind of picky about reading in order too but I'm mostly just interested in this one. I do feel like I'd miss not getting his backstory in the first two books...don't know what I'll do! 7y
MeganB @raelaschoenherr I mean, the nice thing about contemporary non-suspense romance is that you can definitely read out of order without spoilers or context issues. Bittersweet at least didn't go into Zach's backstory too much, I think you'd be ok reading keepsake first. 7y
raelaschoenherr Ok, thanks!! ☺️ 7y

My first Sarina Bowen story and I loved it! In a genre full of MMA fighters/athletes/millionaires/manwhores ...well, I loved reading instead about a sexy organic farmer in Vermont who is close to his family. Sweet and swoon-y contemporary romance. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

(4 stars) Three Thoughts 1) what a cute story! I loved Grumpy Griff and Audrey 2) great story progression where there is no pointless breakup 3) a quick enjoyable read and I am looking forward to the other books in the series
