The Passage
The Passage: A Novel (Book One of The Passage Trilogy) | Justin Cronin
NAMED ONE OF THE TEN BEST NOVELS OF THE YEAR BY TIME AND LIBRARY JOURNAL—AND ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Washington Post • Esquire • U.S. News & World Report • NPR/On Point • St. Louis Post-Dispatch • BookPage   An epic and gripping tale of catastrophe and survival, The Passage is the story of Amy—abandoned by her mother at the age of six, pursued and then imprisoned by the shadowy figures behind a government experiment of apocalyptic proportions. But Special Agent Brad Wolgast, the lawman sent to track her down, is disarmed by the curiously quiet girl and risks everything to save her. As the experiment goes nightmarishly wrong, Wolgast secures her escape—but he can’t stop society’s collapse. And as Amy walks alone, across miles and decades, into a future dark with violence and despair, she is filled with the mysterious and terrifying knowledge that only she has the power to save the ruined world.   “Enthralling . . . You will find yourself captivated.”—Stephen King   “Magnificently unnerving . . . The Stand meets The Road.”—Entertainment Weekly   “Great entertainment . . . [a] big, engrossing read.”—The Dallas Morning News   “Mythic storytelling.”—San Francisco Chronicle   The story of Amy continues in The Twelve, coming soon. I became interested in the book after watching the ten episode series on Fox. Boy, was I not prepared for the roller coaster ride this book is. Many people want to read a book before seeing a TV/Movie adaptation but I have to disagree. The books is always better so why set yourself up?

Unsurprisingly, Fox cancelled the show. It wasn‘t an awful version of the book but there were some weird plot changes. I always figured this would be a hard series to translate to screen under the best of circumstances. Goodness knows the Fox version wasn‘t anywhere near that.

vivastory I only watched a few episodes, I thought what I saw was a bit meh. Love the books, you're right. It'd be really tough to do justice to them. 2mo
Geeklet @vivastory I powered through the first season with the help of a bottle of wine. By the end, it was picking up steam but the middle of the season was a snoozefest. I can see how it continually lost viewers. I wouldn‘t have been interested in the show at all if I hadn‘t really enjoyed the books. 2mo

This was a well crafted, well written, thrilling and exciting ride!! It was impressive to see Cronin make an overdone trope like vampire/zombies fresh. The character development was wonderful, and I'm definitely attached which I'm sure is a problem because I don't think those folks come back in future books 😬 But I loved it and am excited to grab the next in the series.

The Passage .....#4 of 2019. You know the thing that I always notice about apocalyptic novels and movies is how quickly the world goes to shit. If the zombies ever come we will be DOOMED. Book was alright. I like the beginning and end but found the whole thing to be a bit Wordy at times. I found myself skipping over paragraphs quite often bc they held no value. I‘ll prob audible the 2nd one.

I‘ll admit, I was on the fence with this one for about 500 pages, I can‘t believe I continued reading but I am so glad I did. It‘s a vampire apocalypse! This books jumps a bit between 3 time periods, but just ended up being this really lovely tale of survivors. I found it a bit taxing to try to keep up with all the characters but it was so worth it. I don‘t know if I consider the end a cliffhanger or a throat punch, but I bought the second book.

Back at The Passage which has been a slow journey for me so far. I like it, I‘ve just been reading it for a long time. But it‘s super foggy out today so my plan is to do some cleaning (reading) and go to the library (reading) and maybe some reading (reading). Happy Saturday!!

I have to vent. I have a bad habit of finding mistakes in books. Grammar, spelling, wrong word, etc. (Yes, I‘d love to be a copy editor someday). I am on page 273 (about 1/3 of the book) and I‘m noticing something very annoying. It hasn‘t happened until page 268 but I‘ve noticed it several times. (You counted right. In SIX pages!) The last few lines of one page are repeated on the next page. Or lines are completely MISSING. Ahh I hate it!

I know there are always changes when making movie or show adaptations based on books; but this is WAY different. It‘s like they took the idea from this book and made a different story for the show. Both are great though! I‘m almost 1/3 of the way through the book. Reading to pass the time at work.

After an intense reading weekend, I finished this #chunkster on Tuesday night. Not my usual genre, but this book seriously exceeded expectations. Reminded me a lot of Station Eleven, though more action packed and Sci-Fi leaning. There were a lot of legitimately unexpected twists and turns. My first 5 ⭐️ read of 2019. I have one other book I‘m trying to wrap up before the end of the month, but this one might round out January for me.

I love this series so much. ❤️

When I started The Passage three years ago, I had no idea what I was getting in to, but I was in love by the 25% mark of book 1. A perfect series with a strong start, excellent middle, and epic ending.

Picking just one favorite series is hard, though! Other contenders: Outlander by Gabaldon, The Dark Tower by King, the Gilead series by Marilynne Robinson, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter. 😃

#24in48

1. I liked the book until I finished it at 3am to discover a cliffhanger when I had know idea it was going to be a series. I threw it across the room!
2. Try to pack, but I but too often 😬
3. I fell off the stage during a run through of The Music Man and broke my tailbone at age 13. I had to sit on a donut in class for 6 weeks.
