Out of the Dark | Dr Robin Royston, Linda Caine
2 posts | 2 to read
As a contented wife and mother, Linda Caine has everything she ever wanted. Yet a darkness haunts her. Images flash through her mind leaving her stunned and terrified. She has no idea why. Linda believes there is something bad inside her. But she listens to the voice that tells her everything will be OK, that when it finally gets too much, she can end it all. She will drive off a cliff on her way home from the supermarket. After all, who commits suicide with groceries in the car? The raw and powerful journey that Linda takes with her psychiatrist Robin Royston will leave you breathless. The secrets of her childhood are buried so deep that to reveal them could destroy her completely. Together Linda and Robin must race to unravel the clues before its too late . . . OUT OF THE DARK is Linda Caine's remarkable and uplifting story from the agonies of mental breakdown to the painful piecing together of the past that was vital for her survival. Both her courage and Robin's persistence during the process show the power of the human spirit at its most indomitable and inspiring.

In a few weeks I‘ll be spending a week in a national park as part of rewilding the Finnish forest reindeer. I have decided it‘ll be 8h sleeping, 8h reading, 8h for the rest. I want to read a book a day, as well as a few books that I‘ll read in smaller doses. Mostly I want lighter reading, but not entirely. Here are some books I‘m thinking about. A book should last 3-6ish hours. For those of you who‘ve read any of these, what do you think?

Andrew65 Only read 2. The Scott Mariani certainly fits the lighter read but most of his books take me between 8 and 9 hours to read, it depends on your reading speed. The Gentleman in Moscow is another excellent book but at 480 pages will take longer to read than the 5 or 6 hours. 5y
Libby1 Bossypants fits the brief. I read it in a layover between flights at JFK! This sounds like an amazing opportunity for you. Enjoy! 5y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 I‘d say I‘ll read a Mariani in 6 hours, maybe. Not all of the books have to fit the time frame, as long as most do. Bossypants looks like a short read. I think the Gentleman takes the longest. Looking for diversity, and to finish several books I own, but have not read. 🙂 (edited) 5y

Tove_Reads @Libby1 Yeah, I think it‘s the shortest and fastest. Will def take it with me! 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads You must be quite a fast reader, certainly faster than me by the look of that. Hope you have a great time. 👍 5y
Texreader What a glorious adventure! I hope to go to Finland someday since my sister in law is from Helsinki. Looks like some great book choices too! (edited) 5y
Tove_Reads @Texreader Welcome to Helsinki! That‘s where I‘m from as well. 5y
Tove_Reads @Andrew65 Hard to compare with fonts etc., but I think 100 pages per hour is quite normal for me. 5y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Wow!!!! 🙌🙌🙌 Again depends on font but I read around 50 Pages an hour. Can be up to 60 depending on number of words on a page on the odd occasion or down to 40 on some hardbacks. What about you @EadieB ? (edited) 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 It does depend on the book but I am basically a slow reader only do about 25 to 35 pages an hour but I do read 12 to 14 hrs a day. I do audio whenever I can as that helps greatly. Some days if I‘m tired, I lose concentration and have to go back and reread and that slows me down too. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB What time is it where you are? 🛏 💤 Amazing the different speeds we all read at, your reading speed corresponds to my wife, and she picks up more detail than I do. She won‘t listen to audiobooks. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 it‘s now 5:00 am and I can‘t sleep anymore so I‘m awake and drinking my tea. I was listening to audio in bed last night and fell asleep about 10:00 so did get 7 hrs of sleep. 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB That‘s quite a lot for you! 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I know 5 hrs is enough usually but babysat Tuesday, Thursday and Friday all day so I was pretty exhausted by Friday night. (edited) 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB That‘s a lot of baby sitting! 👶 No wonder you were exhausted. 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 Did no babysitting last week because of my trip so I guess I had to make up some time. My daughter‘s father-in-law was helping his daughter watch her two sons and she lives near Gettysburg so I did his time the week as he did my time last week. 5y
Tex2Flo Most look like they could be finished in the sittings, but I‘m not familiar with the Medieval Murders or the one at the top of the list. For me, it always depends on how much dialogue there is rather than just a page count. Fabulous opportunity to read and rest, though! (edited) 5y
DivineDiana Read two and absolutely loved both! 5y

Just found this one amongst all my unread books. Seems like a good, albeit heavy read.
