DC Universe: Rebirth (2016) #1
DC Universe: Rebirth (2016) #1 | Geoff Johns
6 posts | 9 read | 8 to read
It all begins here. Do not skip to the last page. Do not let a friend or message board ruin this comic for you. The future (and past) of the DC Universe starts here. Don't say we didn't warn you! THEY SAID IT: 'Rebirth is about focusing in on the core of the character and their respective universe,' says writer and DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. 'It brings back what has been lost: the legacy of the characters, the love and the hope of the DCU!'

D.C. merges all previous iterations of their past Universe with interesting results that either work, or don't. Flashpoint is the center of the crisis, as the heroes feel echoes of forgotten realities and try to figure out what is going on. I love Batman and Diana's redesigns, but the story feels confusing and characters are somewhat (understandably) confused.

DC Comics did a semi-reboot earlier this year -- and surprise, surprise, I liked it more than expected! If you're interested in specific characters, there's really no need to pick this up, but it's an interesting read that sets up the new DC universe.

While I'm not a complete novice with the current continuity of DC Comics, I did have some difficulty understanding the storyline initially. However, I soon found myself falling into the action. I think the future is bright with the promises of Rebirth.

Enjoyed this a lot, mainly because of the point of view character, who is one of my great favorites. There were some other nice reveals and character moments, and the explanation of what's been off about the New 52 universe is... apt. Less thrilled about the baddie, & caption narration was a crutch.
