My mom knit Elephant and Piggie—with interchangeable sweaters—for a charity auction. And then she paired them with my very favorite of all the Elephant & Piggie books. It almost makes me wish my two teens were toddlers again! Such a wonderful gift for some lucky child. She is sooo talented—I have neither the patience or the skill to create such awesomeness.

I bought six new pairs of socks from Out of Print, and this is one of my favorite pairs. Alice and I have been reading a ton of Elephant and Piggy lately; I‘ve even perfected my voices for each of them. The books are cute and funny and we have tons of fun reading them each night. I also bought Pigeon socks because really, Mo Willems is just freaking awesome, y‘all.

ravenlee Gerald! Piggie! Pigeon! Love them all. Did you do the Lunch Doodles online with Mo earlier this year? 4y
thevictoriousone @ravenlee We did not! Unfortunately we were still figuring out life in lockdown and missed out on that one, but I remember seeing it was happening! 4y
ravenlee The Kennedy Center archived the videos, and I think they‘re still available. We did a few after the initial broadcast, which was a whole lot easier. The first three taught us how to draw Gerald, Piggie, and Pigeon. 4y
thevictoriousone @ravenlee Oh what?! I‘ll have to go look them up then! Thanks for the tip! 4y
ravenlee We got about halfway through, and there were more craft things happening than drawing so we were done, but the first few were awesome. Might go back and check out some more eventually. 4y

“Piggie.. I think someone is looking at us“ This is something Gerald the Elephant says at the beginning of the book. I think this is a funny quote that shows how the book incorporates the child into the story.

This is a great book to read out loud to the children so you can add expression to the character's voices. It really adds humor to the story.

“We are in a Book!“ by Mo Willems, 2007. Picture book. I read this book at the CDC! The pictures are a very integral part of the text, because it's about the characters being “trapped“ in the book. I think it's very creative! I know this is appealing to kids because my students were laughing so hard.

I would use this book in my classroom when my students are expanding their vocabulary and to get them to read more. This book will help them to want to read and enjoy it because it has character involvement where the characters in the story ask you, the reader, questions.

This book is a great book for any age really because it is character involvement with the reader itself. The illustrations are really good and the vocabulary is good for young new readers.

1. Winnie the Pooh. I got it when I was 5, and, 60 years later I still have that copy.
2. Summers in northern Michigan.
3. I never had chores. My mom was a perfectionist, so she did everything for us so that it would be done “ right”. I had never made a bed or used the washer when I moved out.
4. Board games. My sister and I could play them for hours and hours. We still do when we get together.
5. Elephant and Piggie! ❤️❤️❤️

#hellothursday

wanderinglynn Wow! I can‘t imagine not having chores. As much as I hated chores, I‘m thankful (as an adult) to have had to do them because I knew how to do a lot of household stuff! And thanks for playing! 💜 5y

This is a good book to use with younger students who are learning how to read. This F book is great to use as a RA in your class. This book will make students want to read. https://study.com/academy/lesson/we-are-in-a-book-lesson-plan.html this link has a great lesson you could use with students related to this book. Students can write what it's like to be in a book with a partner (esol 2 ) (udl 3.1) #UCFLAE3414SP18

This F by Mo Willems is a Geisel Honor book that would be great for grades K-2 as a RA and I would use it to teach book and print awareness. In this book, Elephant and Piggie figure out that they are in a book and can make the reader say whatever they want. They also talk about book pages and how to tell when the book ends. #ucflae3414sp18

AndreaG This website has tons of resources for Mo Willems books that could follow the reading of this text. http://pigeonpresents.com/get-busy/#pp-series-elephant-piggie ELL: 44 UDL: 1.2, 3.2, (edited) 6y

We Are in a Book by Mo Willems is a humorous F picture book that won the Geisel award. The story follows Gerald and Piggie‘s realization of being in a book. At first they are confused, until they realize they have the power to tell the reader‘s what to say and do. This would be a great book for CR because of its interactive nature and humor. Children will definitely be laughing when they read this book! #ucflae3414f17

KayleeC Here is an adorable reading of the book: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgnC5V3S-Ig
This reading would support UDL 1.2 Offer alternatives for auditory information and 1.3 Offer alternatives for visual information. It would also support ESOL 21, record your lectures, presentations, or stories on audiotape, especially for new students who have very limited exposure to English.
6y
laurie_jayy This is a book I just read! I love how the characters realize that they‘re in the book and can tell the reader what to say/do. This is a book that I‘m interested in reading so I figure that the students would love it also. Definitely adding it to my list! 6y

This is a hilarious frictional story that won a Geisel award. Elephant and Piggie come to the realization they are in a book were they begin to question their existence. Eventually discovering they have the power of telling the reader what to say. It‘s a story children will really enjoy reading and playing along with. Can be use for an RA or GR.

Beths https://youtu.be/EerFduFhoI4 this link provides a read aloud of the story. UDL 2.5 illustrating the book through multiple media and EL 29 offering students a variety of materials that can be used for independent use. #UCFLAE3414F17 6y

We Are In A Book! Is a comical F picture book, awarded the Geisel Honor, written by the famous Mo Willems. It is about Elephant and Piggie, discovering they are being read about in a book! Great pick for PR as one student can read as Elephant and the other as Piggie. UDL 7.2- optimize relevance, value (very simple text perfect for emerging readers). EL 32- use student pairs for team learning.

farynantenucci This is an awesome author study for Mo Willems, made by yours truly. Great to present to class and expose students to the other great award winning works written by Willems.

Today's author spotlight: Mo Willems! The 49-year-old was born in Illinois, raised in New Orleans, attended NYU, and now lives in Massachusetts. He started drawing cartoons at 3, and knew he did well when adults genuinely laughed. He won 6 Emmy Awards with "Sesame Street" and worked with Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon. He's been married to his wife, Cheryl Camp, for 20 years, and they have a daughter, Trixie. #AuthorPotpourri #TheMoreYouKnow
