My friend from Cali suggested I read this, and I‘m glad she did. This is a memoir spanning 1975-1987, the author‘s school years in Palos Verdes. The family had moved from Carson, a predominantly black area to PV for better schools and upward mobility. Achievement was stressed more than anything, and overcoming racism (vicious stuff in the beginning of their residence) and striving to integrate was paramount. Their strength and fortitude 🔽

JanuarieTimewalker13 was more than impressive. Of course, the stress of this did show throughout the book, and I appreciated the author‘s honesty and integrity. Highly recommend. (edited) 4y
