The Very Helpful Hedgehog
The Very Helpful Hedgehog | Rosie Wellesley
1 post | 1 to read
Isaac is a hedgehog who has only ever been alone – and that is the way he likes it. One day an apple falls from a tree and sticks onto the spines on his back. He wiggles and jiggles, but he cannot get it off. As he struggles to remove the apple, help comes in the unexpected form of a donkey who cannot reach the apples which fall outside of his paddock. Isaac learns that it is better to have a friend and to be helpful than to be on your own all of the time. Approximately 450 words/Age range: 3-6 years.

I need to do a major book overhaul in my kids‘ rooms. My little one‘s shelves are full and she‘s got stacks under her bed! I was hesitant to part with their board books and picture books so I stored them all, but I can‘t keep doing that either! Do I let them choose what to keep? I think they‘ll pick them all. 🤣

LibrarianRyan Find someplace to take them, like a local shelter, the Salvation Army after school program, local children's hospital. Then have your kids help sort and maybe do a keep one give one type of thing where they go through them all, and decide which to keep and what to give to others who need them. 5y
BookNAround I took ours to the kids‘ school and offered them to the librarian and any interested teachers. 5y
Amiable I gave a bunch to my brother for my niece and nephew, who are still little enough to enjoy them. And then I brought the rest to the hospital where I work and donated them to the Child Life Department for use in the children's hospital. 5y

Chelsea.Poole Your local library would most likely take some. We do and host book giveaways or use them as prizes throughout the year. Libraries generally only add hardback or board book picture books to their collection because of the wear and tear paperbacks would go through. 5y
daniwithtea My mom put all mine into storage until I was older so that I could choose and keep my favorites. I‘m so glad she did - I still have them now! 5y
MelissaSue81 @daniwithtea - that‘s why I couldnt part with the baby books and the picture books. (That and I didn‘t have the energy to really sort the ones that they really won‘t care about). But we have a TON on paperback early chapter books that neither girl ever even read or will read. 5y
daniwithtea @MelissaSue81 oh that‘s a bummer! 5y
