It could be my mood and mental exhaustion, but I am just not enjoying this book. Waco has always fascinated me and I am disappointed so far.

David Koresh saw the author was vulnerable; he saw a way in and he took it. The author seems to adore David but doesn‘t really seem very concerned about the sexual abuse that went on, or David‘s episodes of mania. Sadly, I think that the ATF probably went in more for the weapons than the abuse that was going on. It needed to stop, but the way they went about it was wrong. The Davidians at Waco were just another cult.

I watched the series last year and I was so excited to read it but so was everyone else 😂 I was finally able to borrow it and MAN. I did not know anything about this conflict!! It was very well written and eye opening.

👏🏻 12 👏🏻 year 👏🏻 olds 👏🏻 can‘t 👏🏻 choose 👏🏻 to 👏🏻 be 👏🏻 in 👏🏻 sexual 👏🏻 relationships!! This author is a sickening apologist for Koresh and seems to have no understanding of rape, coercion, and sexual assault. I am physically distressed after listening to 4.5 hours of this.

wanderinglynn Well Koresh had serious mental issues, which is how that whole thing came to pass. The author was indoctrinated and clearly is a sympathizer. Because I read a little bit about from the child psychologist who was called in to evaluate the fee children that survived and his account was so so sad & heartbreaking. (edited) 4y

I can‘t read a man feeling sorry about his own celibacy (cry me a river bud, you walked into this) and not giving one thought to the minors being raped. The author was fake married to one of Koresh‘s first wives, who was 16 and already had three children from Koresh!! And the author was all jealous of what a stud Koresh was and wondered how the women didn‘t get in cat fights over him. 😒😒 4y

wanderinglynn The child psychologist I mentioned wrote👇🏻 book. It‘s extremely hard to read because the stories are incredibly heartbreaking, but he does explain the neuroscience and brain development of children. I warn you now that the boy who was raised as a dog (which is true and he explains it) is not the worst story in this book.

A) I have no idea why I‘m listening to this book.

B) I have no idea why people believe in rules and regulations imposed by one man. Koresh required all the men to be celibate but Koresh could have sex with all the wives and single ladies. What???

C) I have so many questions.

Eggs It's a tragic part of history-Koresh seemed charismatic although immoral in my opinion; but the Feds really went crazy and fueled the flames both literally and figuratively. Sad 6y

Suet624 @Eggs No, but it‘s similar. It‘s about Bhagwan Rajneesh and his followers and how they took over a town in Oregon. I‘m only on the 3rd episode but it‘s fascinating. 6y

Being a fan of historical events, I found this book questioning my belief in our police and FBI. It made me so angry that because of David Koresh‘s actions a whole group of people were harmed. The way the police handled everything was wrong and I am glad David Thibodeau shared his story of that terrifying event.

I'm listening to this audiobook right now and I'm already having mixed feelings. I was a teenager when the horrors of Waco began. It's clear the government (FBI, ATF) lost their minds, but Koresh was not just some mellow bible thumper either (his sexual practices with teenagers is disgusting). Thibodeau was just 24 when the siege began, and he definitely has a very different tale to tell than the ones the media spun.

MelAnn My uncle was a dps officer who was sent down there during that time & he had major issues with how that entire thing was handled by the feds. I love hearing different perspectives like this! 6y

OrangeMooseReads I‘ve been watching the specials ABC (?) has had on about the events. I was 10ish when it happened I clearly remember it but didn‘t fully understand. Koresh is at fault for a large portion, but the FEDs bungled and botched things. @MelAnn that is interesting. 6y
