Finally getting out of my rut and getting back into finishing the Poirot series. This was one of the better ones.

Mehso-so

This particular story introduces Poirot early, but then he doesn't appear again for a third of the book. I like how that adds depth to the characters, but I find I prefer less drama and more investigation in a lot of my mysteries. This was emphasized by the fact that the characters are uninteresting liars. I also felt discomfort at the other crimes swept under the rug, the violence in all the romances, and these potential criminals got a win. Meh.

It is a real puzzler - plenty of clues and characters to muddy the waters - for that reason it is a pick. However, this one isn't one of my favorites. And the end is ... different.

Borrowed Taken at The Flood from the library but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Agatha Christie is the queen of #suspense and I've been reading more of her since some one gifted me Unexpected Guest.

Another great read by Agatha Christie. Just when you think you have an idea of who the murderer is, everything changes. Though the last three pages are debatable.

Part of my collection of my beloved author. She will always have a special place in my heart, next to Enid Blyton. 🎖

I read this last night in practically one sitting, and I'd forgotten how quick and easy Christie novels can be. The mystery was fun to figure out, but 1940s gender politics and domestic violence didn't age quite as well. Now I kind of just want to check out a stack of these from the library and binge. #comfortreads #herculepoirot

#AndItsAugust #day24 #ComfortReads If I'm having a bad day or when things just get too much, these are the books I reach for. I love the time period they're set in, I love the characters & I love how everything is just put together so perfectly. Dame Agatha is right up on top of my favourite authors list, plus she was an amazing woman in an era where women were not valued that much as strong independent people.✊️

Libby1 I just finished Passenger to Frankfurt yesterday. I loved it in all its glorious weirdness. Which ones are your favourites? 2y
Karen3 I love this shelf!! 😍😍😍 I just started my collection of hers after getting sucked in completely by And Then There Were None. I want a shelf like this. I'm having a very hard time finding her first book The Mysterious Affair at Styles. Any suggestions on where to find it? Amazon sent me a very odd copy. 2y

I'm finally getting back into my Poirot series read, and these later books are virtually all new to me. They're the TV adaptations that I've seen the least, and I'm starting to dread the end of the series. (My parents and I adore this show and my Dad died just before the last 3 shows aired, haven't been able to watch them at all!) At any rate, I really enjoyed this twisted mystery, and had no idea whodunnit! Rowley sure is a weird guy, though. 4⭐️

Lizpixie This is in my top three Dame Agatha novels! Yes, Rowley is a strange one, but David is the devil himself.😈 2y
LauraBrook @Lizpixie It's up in the top for me too so far. I still have all of Marple, her Mary Westmacott ones, and the rest of Poirot, plus standalones. David is so the devil! And WTF was wrong with Lynn that those were her only two choices!?! Still, a cracking good story, and one I'd like to reread again. 2y
Readerann I am dreading the day when I'm finished with all of Dame Christie's books. Guess I'll just have to start re-reading! 2y

LauraBrook @jmtrivera I'm excited for you to read this! 2y
LauraBrook @rabbitprincess YES! Made me really mad, bc it was so ridiculous. Who would want to marry that jerk?! That and the stuff that old lady said in the pub ticked me off the most. But it's Christie, and It's of its time, so I have to just acknowledge the bad stuff and let it go. 2y

#LyricalApril #day8 #AmIWrong in thinking that Dame Agatha is the undisputed Queen Of Crime? Her books were original, inspiring & very clever. She inspired so many authors, she's on the favourite author lists of millions of people worldwide, the only books that have outsold her is The Bible & Shakespeare. And she was an avid surfer🏄🏼‍♀️as well!

erzascarletbookgasm Of course not! Agatha Christie IS the one and only original Queen of Crime! Forevah!❤️❤️❤️ 2y
AmyG Try reading Ruth Rendell. If AC is the queen, she would be the princess? 2y
Librariana That's a lovely collection you've got! 2y

Lizpixie @erzascarletbookgasm 🙌 you know it! @AmyG I love Ruth Rendell too, as well as Elizabeth George, P.D.James, Ann Cleeves, Carola Dunn & Kerry Greenwood @librariana thank you, that's only half of it! @Cinfhen apparently she was one of the first women to stand up on a board🤘🏻🏄🏼‍♀️🌊🤘🏻 2y

I'm giving this a pick overall. The mystery as a whole was good. I've given up trying to figure these out haha, I'm always wrong. The epilogue is a complete disaster, but if you shave off everything after the murderer is revealed, it's a good book.

EvieBee I heard that this book is meant to be read in conjunction with After the Funeral. Forget which one comes first. 2y

#seasonsreadings2016 #day30 #bestofdecember Looking back on what I've read this month, I found it's mostly either Dame Agatha or Phryne Fisher! Out of the 22 books I read this month, 6 were Miss Fisher & 12 were Dame Agatha. I think I need to change it up for the start of 2017, a bit more variety is called for. #christiescrimeclub

#12DaysOfXmasPhoto #day12 #WantAsAGift If anyone has $2,270 and they're looking for a present for me, this beauty is your best best. A signed, first edition, first printing of my favourite Poirot novel. In really great condition considering it's age, it's my dream santa gift. I'd make the hubby build me a case so I could put it on display, without worrying about grubby hands touching my precious! Sigh.

This has to be my favourite of all of Dame Agathas stories. At the very least, it's up there with Death On The Nile, A Murder Is Announced & And Then There Were None, all her best work.In David Hunter, she has a brilliant villain in the form of a bad boy. The kind of man sensible women go stupid for, kind that enjoy war & killing but go crazy in peace. If you're looking for a Christie to start with, you can't go wrong with this. #christiescrimeclub

This is so far, one of Dame Agathas best work.Gordon Cloade is a very rich man. After supporting his extended family for years, he marries a girl 30yrs younger, then is killed by a bomb during the Blitz. When it's found he made no will, his estate goes to his wife of 2weeks,who with her controlling brother, comes to live in the family home, to the fury of his family. When a man shows up claiming to be her first husband, who has a motive to murder him?
