Thank you @AsYouWish for my #fallathogwarts box!!

One of the earliest to read books I ever added on here. And now I just need the twins to complete my weasley collection. Unless there is a Bill Weasley, and the parents. Too bad Charlie never had a scene in the movies!
I have a bracelet to show my house pride now thanks!!
@Endowarrior21 thanx for allowing me to join, it was fun!

AsYouWish Yay!!! So glad it arrived safely and I almost switched my house allegiance when I saw that bracelet! I looked it up and there is a Bill Funko pop, but I am not sure if he is real or a custom made one. 3w
bullbunny @AsYouWish Early years of Pottermore I was a Ravenclaw. Retaking the test I got Hufflepuff and I am very much like one XD 3w

Chrissyreadit @stephothebesto thank you so much for your recommendations!!!! we have the golden compass and listened to it many years ago but he did not love it. He is going to add Sabriel to his list. He tried Six of Crows and said he did not love it, but I‘m not sure why. He has read all the Laini Taylor books. 3w

Chrissyreadit @LibrarianRyan - librarian extraordinaire for sure!!! He is absolutely into YA and adult books as well if you have thoughts- his favorite adult/YA series before The Discovery Of Witches was The Belgariad- he read that around 9 or 10 though. He also liked Piers Anthony, Xanth books and Incarnations of Immortality...if you have any other thoughts 🥰👏🙌😘 3w

An update for those wondering 😂

My aunt & I were given a ton of books on August 10th. We've gone through some of them & decided to keep some. (The ones I was excited to get were a first edition box set of the Percy Jackson books & A Discovery of Witches) She's left me in charge of getting rid of the ones we don't want. Who knew getting rid of books could be so crazy 😂 I've sold a lot of the books & traded a lot on the PaperbackSwap website.

wanderinglynn Now that‘s a book haul! 😂 How fun! I love sorting and going through books. 1mo

The writing was mediocre, sometimes cheesy, and I found Matthew impossible. Are we just going to let it slide that he continuously drugs his girlfriend against her will/ without her knowledge? What? The book also could have easily done with 250 pages less, there was so much unnecessary detail & description ... But somehow, despite all its problems, the story still pulled me in. It's a great premise, the execution just leaves much to be desired.

BarbaraTheBibliophage I agree. If you felt this way about book one, don‘t go on. They get worse, not better. 😝 1mo
scripturient-ink @BarbaraTheBibliophage Oh no, that doesn't sound very promising :D I was wondering if I should give the second one a chance, I was told it was better ... Maybe I'll just watch the series instead 😂 1mo
Caroline2 Totally agree. This book needed some serious editing. 🙄 1mo
scripturient-ink @Caroline2 It's super frustrating, because I think it could have been great but it just ... wasn't. A bit like reading a first draft or something. 1mo
BarbaraTheBibliophage What happened for me as the books progressed was that they moved further and further from any kind of supernatural mythos. The things that happened felt so unimaginative by the end ... it just fizzles. 1mo

This somehow made me think of the Bad Wolf Speech from Doctor Who:

“I am the Bad Wolf. I create myself. I take the words, I scatter them in time and space. A message to lead myself here. [...] I want you safe, my Doctor. Protected from the false god. [...] You are tiny. I can see the whole of time and space. Every single atom of your existence, and I divide them. [...] Everything must come to dust. All things. Everything dies. The Time War ends.“

Oh I hated this book. I‘m 200 pages in and I can‘t keep going. NOTHING happens. Nothing. The romance storyline is forced and doesn‘t feel remotely organic. Neither MC is very well-developed and that‘s probably a major reason why. The author‘s take on supernatural beings is interesting, too bad she didn‘t actually have much of a plot to develop around it.

Not sure if it counts as a #SeriesRead if I bailed 😂 @TheSpineView

I finished my reread! The book was how I‘d mostly remembered, and I still had the same problems. The reason I like this book is because of the story, not because of the characters. Diana annoys me and is super melodramatic sometimes. Matthew is super controlling and pisses me off. BUT I love Marcus and the aunts and the magic and the alchemy, history, philosophy.... I really like what AMC is doing with the show too! Would 100% recommend.

This definitely felt Twilight inspired, but this one is more mature and the world created is far more detailed. It also has a bit of science talk, which I enjoyed and while there were a few things that I didn't like, I was unable to put this book down until I finally finished it at 4 am. 📒📚📓📚📒

Between a soso and a pan. I did enjoy the plot and world building in this but the writing made it absolutely impossible, it was so cliche, particularly the romance sections but just all of it, there wasn‘t a character that felt believable. It‘s a pity cause I like the concept and would like to finish the series but I don‘t know if I can do any more of Harkness‘ prose.

GatheringBooks oh that is sad to hear. i was looking forward to reading it for our witches theme in oct-dec. 3mo

Kimberlone I liked the first one well enough, but couldn‘t make myself finish the second and basically gave up on this series. Very Outlander meets Twilight. 3mo
currerbelle I don't remember any particular thoughts about the prose, but I did like that I could feel all the research that had gone into it. There was a great sense of atmosphere. And I enjoyed imagining myself at the Bodleian Library. 3mo
Emilymdxn @currerbelle maybe I just didn‘t appreciate the research because I used to go a lot and so that probably leads to not appreciating it being an evocative portrayal of the library for me 🤷‍♀️ I guess no one feels that spellbound or carried away by a book painting a picture of their backyard lol, if it had been Harvard where I‘ve never been I‘d probably have loved that 3mo
