~A Year In Books - Favorites of 2020~

Day 7: Favorite Book of July:
All These Monsters - Amy Tintera

July saw me finishing up the Expanse (until Book 9, the last) and starting the Harry Potter series, with Rebel and ATM in between. All These Monsters was excellent, I‘m a fan of all things Tintera.

So I didn't love this as much as I loved the Ruined trilogy but I enjoyed it more than Reboot. I wasn't super crazy about the romance to start but as the book went on, I realized it was being used for a purpose and not an “OTP love at first sight.“ I do wish the author would have extended the timeline because it seemed a little ridiculous all this happened over the course of like 2 weeks.

All in all, this was a unique, fast-paced, and interesting read. I loved how the author chose to end things and the sense of empowerment she kept building within Clara. I‘m definitely looking forward to All These Warriors and I‘m hoping to see all sorts of monsters get their just desserts!

I've been a fan of Amy Tintera's works in the past, I really liked the Reboot Duo...but maybe I need to be more discerning when it comes to the YA I choose to read...because I wasn't really feeling this...it just felt too YA for me. The dialogue felt rather cheesy and the actions of the characters felt off...I'm going to with this being a case of it's not you (the book), it's me (me). Since there are already plenty of readers who've liked it.

Here‘s my kind of, maybe, totally subject to change TBR for August. I am also trying to get caught up on some long neglected digital review copies on NetGalley so I‘ll hopefully get through a couple of those, as well. And I have a couple other books that are not yet in my possession that I hope yo read in August: This Is My America (released today!) and True Story. There will likely be a few audiobooks in here, too. #augusttbr #toberead

An amazing thrill ride from start to finish. Teen protagonist Clara lives in a world where feral monsters called scrabs are invading most of Europe. Hoping to escape her abusive family, she joins a ragtag team of monster hunters and discovers a conspiracy in the process. A YA book you don't want to put down, this homage to Buffy meets Starship Troopers is one to pick up.

Earlier today I thought it would be fun to have my little ferret, Delilah, help me pick two of my birthday books that I can fit in with other reading obligations to enjoy next month. I filmed a video and she did exceptionally well with her role. In fact, she momentarily posed on All These Monsters and few things combine more perfectly than a book with the word “monsters” in the

abookishbutterfly title and my little Delilah. If you want to see the video, I posted it on my A Bookish Butterfly Page and it‘s super cute! I wanted her to pose with the book for this photo, too, but she‘s hidden away somewhere sleeping. I used a stuffed ferret as a stand in. 😂 Anyway, even though I do wish I could get to all of the books immediately, I am very excited about the two that she picked! 4y

1) Umm...what‘s an accessory? Lol...I have a belt...? My closets are basically storage.
2) I‘ve been to the sandy deserty region of Eastern Oregon and Southeastern Washington state. And I guess maybe the Badlands in South Dakota.
3) All These Monsters! I love this book and her stuff including the Ruined Trilogy and Reboot, have Rebel (Reboot 2), that‘s next!

cleoh That line made me laugh! This scene is so good 4y
Bookish_Viking @cleoh Ok so, I wish I could post an entire chapter as a quote, because all of chapter 23 (In the SUV leaving the city) is fantastic. 4y
cleoh @ReaperOfTerrasen omg YES. honestly I might have to reread the book sooner than I was planning 4y

Bookish_Viking @cleoh Yeah I love Amy Tintera‘s books. I‘ve finished the Ruined Trilogy and Reboot. It took me awhile to find Rebel (Reboot 2). I‘ll be doing that one after ATM. 4y
cleoh @ReaperOfTerrasen I‘ve read her Reboot duology and love it (also need to reread soon), and have all of the Ruined trilogy but haven‘t read them yet for some reason. Might have to do that soon 😂 (edited) 4y
Bookish_Viking @cleoh Literally... and yes literally, my only complaint about Amy Tintera is that there aren‘t more books yet. Always anxiously awaiting the next one. 4y
cleoh @ReaperOfTerrasen I love finding an author like that. All These Monsters was the first book of Tintera‘s that I‘ve read in a while but based on how much I loved it I can‘t imagine I‘ll feel differently about her when I get around to reading her other books 4y

After weeks of reading the entire Expanse series, (books 1-8, ~4,422 pages), finally completely caught up until the 9th and final book comes out. It‘s quite exhausting focusing on one series from the beginning, especially a long one, and plowing through them all one after another. Finishing is like coming up for air.

On to All These Monsters! Been waiting for this one.

Sweetkokoro I have to give you credit for continuously reading one series for so long, that‘s amazing! I have to take breaks or I get burnt out and then it ruins the series for me. 4y

Amy Tintera is officially an autobuy author now. I love this story so much and I‘m so upset I have to wait a whole year for the conclusion. Clara is such a badass, and even though she refuses to believe in herself, everyone around her continues to boost and support her. This story has such depth, great monsters (both real and imagined), and excellent fight scenes.

Bookish_Viking I‘m waiting for mine to arrive in the mail. Along with Rebel, Reboot #2. Cant wait. 4y
cleoh @reaperofterrasen Reboot is such a good duology! I think it‘s time for a reread. (edited) 4y
