Another good book in the series, but not as good as the first. It doesn‘t seem quite as exciting as the first; it‘s seems to be more of who is crushing on who. There is a lot of excitement toward the end of the book and Maeve Rojas helps to save the day again. I must say, it seems strange to be reading YA books at nearly 59 years old. 😊 SeriesLove2024 @TheSpineView @Andrew65

“A ton of copycat gossip apps have popped up since Simon died, but in the year since the Bayview four were cleared of his shocking death, no one's been able to fill the gossip void quite like he could. The problem is no one has the facts.

Until now.

This time it's not an app, though - it's a game.

Truth or Dare.”

Enjoyed the storyline until it just seemed to come to a screeching halt. Didn't seem like a cliffhanger setting things up for book 3, but rather like the author simply stopped writing mid-thought. Maybe I was tired and out of sorts and simply misinterpreted the vibe; however, that's 100% how it felt. :/

i think this has to be my favourite read so far! so immersive and seeing each persons point of view makes you feel like a detective, which is what i love when reading!
i expected the killer except not who was working with them (had to put my book down when i found out🤣) but i‘ve never been so invested!!
some parts where so intense and made me super scared for the characters of the book! 5⭐️ read i really recommend ❤️

#StoryGraph: fiction contemporary thriller young adult mysterious tense
374 pages • first pub 2020 • 3 Stars

This young adult thriller novel is the sequel to One of Us Is Lying. The novel follows three Bayview High students—Maeve Rojas, Knox Myers, and Phoebe Lawton—as an anonymous tester begins a game of truth or dare that has fatal consequences. The story is set 18 months after the events of the first book.

A new cyberbully at Bayview High - this time with a twisted game of truth or dare that ends in someone's death.
I sped through this fun thriller - I liked Maeve and Luis particularly and enjoyed glimpses of the Original Bayview Four.
We have a revenge pact and a bunch of different threads that aren't revealed until the end. I guessed the most shocking twist fairly early but raced to the end to see if I was right.

I like how we got a touch of all the characters and an update on them along with some new characters and new mystery. This was a decent book and generally enjoyable but I didn‘t find myself WANTING to pick this up constantly. I was also confused throughout several parts of the book, although I would say I was surprised by the twist.

An easy high school mystery book. It isn't as good as the first and the reveal was a bit lacking but it's a diverting read

Counting this towards my May stuff since I've already posted my April stuff 🤣🤣

very nicely written but the actual mystery of it in the end was a bit disappointing. First book was a little better in comparison but all in all it‘s worth a read!

This was a good read, with the same people from the first book. Again trying to figure of who is culprit, who sends a text message to all school students to ask if they will do a dare or else a secret will get divulged. It is also a fast read as you want to find the answer out! #books

Focus on the Author. What do you notice about the writing?
The author writes in a way where it gives holes or mystery to the story. This help develop a series of events to be unfold as it continues, especially when the story revolves around murder and anonymous people. However, it is also very descriptive to give enough information to the readers and what is happening in the story. The author frequently uses figurative language.

I was a little nervous about the sequel but it was still so good! In my opinion, it wasn‘t as good as the first but I still really enjoyed it. I think maybe I didn‘t connect to the characters as much (plus, I thought this one was a tad more predictable). There‘s always a twist at the end that gets me though! #Booked2020 pick for #RedWhiteorBlue type on the cover

4⭐️. I can officially say I liked book 2 better than book 1. I had most of the ending figured out. And wonder if it could lead to a book 3.

Longer review later

theplacebeyondthespines Exactly the same thoughts! Book 2 did a great job of keeping us engaged with the original characters but there were SO MANY new characters I had to keep referring to the list at the start! Such a fun, enjoyable read though 4y

It‘s been a while since I read the first book, One of Us Is Lying, so it took me some time to become reacquainted with Bayview. Once I did...I was hooked. Ugly secrets come out in a new game, with very serious consequences. And the twist at the end...oh my! Good thriller for young adults (and adults who love YA).

Thanks to #Vladimir for photobombing...he‘s rarely seen in picture form, so you‘re lucky! #catsoflitsy

After the explosiveness of One of Us is Lying, and the atmosphere of Two Can Keep a Secret, this was a little bit of a bummer. The characters wern't as rich and it lacked the intrigue and/or pacing from her previous books. I did like the reveal/conclusion, though. I will continue listening to her works because YA is such a hit or miss for me, so I'm always grateful to find an author I connect with. So excited for The Cousins this fall!

Read Harder 2020 Task

I felt strongly disconnected to the first third of the book. Then suddenly, I was so engrossed I snapped at my family as they kept interrupting my reading. I definitely called the end point but missed major details in the plot. I also want to scream at the sisters because they had "seen" what had happened when people were given a pass and not made responsible for their actions and yet they want to do that to someone else.

We are back at Bayview High, with some old and new characters. We see Maeve ( Bronwyn's sister) , Knox and Phoebe.
After Simon, people are trying to keep his legacy alive by starting similar blogs/websites but none of them are smart enough or have the right amount of gossip to keep it going.
But then comes this text for a truth or dare game.
Will people again fall into this trap? and will someone again get hurt/die because of it.

Can we all agree that the game of Truth or Dare is one of the worst games ever?!? Combine it with a high school still reeling from a student‘s death, social media & the inability to look away even when you know you really should, & the power of secrets to destroy lives & you have another very entertaining mystery. As was the case in the first the character types are familiar, the secrets, in many cases, quite predictable but it‘s still a fun read.

My second completed read of 2020! I loved it! The story kept me consistently interested. Karen McManus does a great job realistically writing the viewpoints of teens. I didn't guess most of the twists. I usually take a while to read books but this one only took 3 days because it was such an intriguing read. I'm excited to see what her next book will be!

Bk5 for #JumpStart2020 was fantastic! Just as good as the 1st book in this series, this one follows the younger siblings of the MCs in that as well as their friends. The tension of not knowing who‘s behind it all is as high & the reveal at the end, though part was obvious by then, contains a shock as well. 5⭐️ #Booked2020 #FinishInADay #LitsyAtoZ2020 #LetterO #PopSugar20 #InvolvingSocialMedia #AntiAlphabetSoupChallenge #LetterA #WinterBookBingo👇👇

Thank god! A book has stuck with me for more than a chapter! Woohoo🙌 #BookSlump has been averted, crisis temporarily over. Bk5.4😋of #JumpStart2020 is so far living up to the expectations of its predecessor, it‘s full of drama, lies & recriminations✔️After the chaos surrounding the death of Simon Kelleher & his framing of four students for his “murder”, Bayview High has slowly recovered. Until the new texts appear saying “Truth or Dare”.

Like One of Us is Lying, expect lots of twists and turns in this sequel. While I figured out the twists easier and quicker with this one, it was still an engaging read. If you pay attention to the clues, the answers are all there along the way. With a nod to the last killer, this time it is an ongoing game of truth or dare, with secrets being revealed and dares being deadly. While the ending felt abrupt, it was a fun ride to get there.
