I finished this book over breakfast and I am surprisingly blown away by it. I had no idea it was a Pirate book but for being a tale as old as time, it's a refreshing and adventurous YA pick. It was always pounding forward and focused heavily on Fable's experience with the world. Major Peter Pan vibes, maybe even a little COBAB. Somehow, the cleanness of the book also enhanced it (and I love romance and smut, truly).

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🌟🌟🌟🌟 Fable must find her place, and family, while trying to survive a life out on the sea. It‘s been four years since her mother drowned during a storm and her father abandoned her on a fishing island known to be home to thieves. Every day is a struggle…and every day Fable must survive and dredge to pay her way off the island.

3.5 STARS - This was a fun read but I felt like the series was just getting its feet wet with (hopefully) more action in the next book, Namesake. A good read but not quite as wow as I was hoping. Love, LOVE the cover and think Fable is a strong main character -- I'm just hoping for deeper story lines in the next book.

I loved this book- it was character driven, harsh world, strong female, a teeny tiny bit of magic, not sure where the story is headed kind of book. @CrowCAH I thought of you- have you read it?
Spoiler though - for my #lmpbc group it ends on a cliffhanger. I bought the sequel though and will gladly mail that out as well- so if you finish and want to read it it can also rotate through.

CrowCAH No, I have not read it, but it‘s on the TBRRRRRR! Totally sounds like a nautical adventure I‘d like to read! 10mo

I really enjoyed this dramatic nautical adventure. I kept thinking I knew what was coming but then TWIST.

One of my pet peeves is when the 1st book in a series doesn‘t have some sort of resolution, and this one certainly does not, so THANK GOODNESS the 2nd book of the duology came out this week. Already ordered! Need closure!

That was amazing! I felt so much anxiety for Fable every moment just hoping she would be safe and make it through. This book delivers that perfect slow burn build of relationships between Fable and the crew distrust to friends and West revealing his true feelings for Fable. The world building and description of underwater elements were beautiful. I‘m so lucky I finished this book on the day the sequel was released because that ending 😱 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘ve read & enjoyed Young‘s earlier novels, so I was excited for her new duology set on the high seas! Titular character, Fable, narrates & the book starts with action from the start- where she‘s been scrabbling together an existence on a remote island she had been abandoned on four years earlier. Now, she‘s ready to leave & claim what‘s owed to her! Nonstop action, tinged with magic & romance makes this fun- but beware of the cliffhanger ending!

1) Fable - Adrienne Young - Quite enjoying it so far.

2) A Sky Beyond The Storm - last finished book in 2020 and an excellent end to the year.

3) 50 - Last year‘s goal was 30, and did 51. We‘ll see how many books I can get finished before Hogwarts Legacy comes out. That game will probably distract me from everything for a time.

I love boat stories: stories that happen on boats, with boats, to boats, etc. and a female protagonist on a boat is all the better. This one was a little too light to really hook me. There was potential here and decent world-building but I didn‘t quite buy the roughness of the characters or the maturity the protagonist was supposed to exude.

At its core, Fable is a story about a girl trying to find a place to belong in with people she belongs with. With underlying themes of what makes a family a family and that it's not always actual family members. This is a story, you can't help but love and Fable is a character you can't help but root for...there might be a few others to root for too.

This feisty little pirate adventure story is one of the most fun things I've read this year. The writing is great, a perfect mix of lyrical & to the point. I fell in love with the atmospheric pirate world. Fable is a strong female protagonist with skills, guts, & a desperate longing for a family. She is great & I rooted hard for her. The pace was perfect & I didn't want to put it down. The ending is killing me & I need the sequel YESTERDAY.
