pickBought this at a thrift store on a whim after reading the title. It was interesting to read and learn more about the authors life and experience. It told his whole life story, including being a POW and seeing many awful things. Hard to read about what he went through and others had it worse. Important to know more of what happened not all that long ago.
pickI'm not a great lover of non-fiction, I generally steer clear of it if I can help it. I've really struggled to pick up a book over the last year, especially during the last few months at home. That was until I found Denis Avey! Far from my usual read, I couldn't put this down from the moment I picked it up. It's a rollercoaster of a ride but it was worth page! It's an unbelievable, emotional, unpredictable account of one man's incredible journey.
pick💔😭 This book was heartbreaking, inspiring and truly an amazing read! Denis Avey was in a POW work camp near Auschwitz and working along Jewish prisoners from the camp. He wanted to see what it was like inside so decided to switch places with a prisoner so he could spend a night in Auschwitz...more than once! He was able to help other prisoners, sometimes risking his own life if he had been caught. Heartbreaking, but an inspiring read ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

I didn't think I had any books set in Eastern Europe because my geography knowledge is appallingly poor. My husband had to tell me where Auschwitz was. I have read this, honestly.
