The Tragic Daughters of Charles I
The Tragic Daughters of Charles I: Mary, Elizabeth & Henrietta Anne | Sarah-Beth Watkins
3 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Mary, Elizabeth and Henrietta Anne, the daughters of King Charles I and his queen, Henrietta Maria, would be brought up against the background of the English Civil War. Mary would marry William, Prince of Orange, and be sent to live in the Netherlands. Elizabeth would remain in England under Parliamentary control. Henrietta Anne would escape to France and be the darling of the French Court. Yet none of the Stuart princesses would live to reach thirty. The Tragic Daughters of Charles I is their story. Chronos Books presents the latest in a series of historical royal biographies by Sarah-Beth Watkins, author of Lady Katherine Knollys: The Unacknowledged Daughter of King Henry VIII

If you‘re looking for a basic, quick biography on the daughters of England‘s Charles I, this is a good starting point. If you want something a little meatier, check elsewhere. In this short biography, Watkins gives a basic sketch of Charles I‘s daughters, all who tragically died before reaching the age of 30. She also interlaces the political turmoil of the era, using a slightly choppy narrative. Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley .

I‘m at a conference, missing my cats like crazy! But, this is the first time since the weekend that I have time to read. I chose to read this short #ARC on the daughters of Charles I, since, you know, pleasure reading = history lessons.
