The Closer
The Closer | Mariano Rivera
4 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
The bestselling memoir from the greatest relief pitcher of all time. He is listed along with Ruth, Mantle, Gehrig, and DiMaggio as a top-five Yankee of all time. He is the man who has intimidated thousands of batters by merely opening a bullpen door. Rivera is also a man of God and family whose contributions to charity and community ensure a meaningful life long after his time as The Closer is over. Now he tells his full story in this widely acclaimed instant bestseller: the championships, the bosses (including The Boss), the rivalries, the struggles of being a Latino baseball player in the United States, and of maintaining Christian values in professional athletics. He discusses his drive to win, the secrets behind his legendary composure, what it's like to run up to that mound with the game--or the season--squarely on his shoulders.

Appreciated the honest insight into moments we were all wondering what was going on inside the author‘s mind.

Is it possible to be homesick for a place you've never lived? I've been home from Panama for a month and reading Mo's description of his neighborhood in Puerto Caimito and his walks through the barrio in Curundu (two places where I've visited and worked)...i have such a longing to go back and continue the work my team started. I miss it so much.

Mariposa_Bookworm It is totally possible. I dream of London everyday and felt so at home there. I'm from a backwoods po-dunk town in North Carolina, but part of my soul is on a high street in London. 7y

I love baseball! Being born and raised in the great state of New York, I am of course a huge Yankee fan. I grew up with Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and the Core Four. ⚾️⚾️⚾️ #augustofpages #bookphotochallenge

Tav Let's go Mets! 😉 8y
ImaginativeMom When I was a kid, my hometown had the Mets AAA farm club. I saw so many greats (Daryl Strawberry, Dwight Gooden, Lenny Dykstra... players y'all may be too young to remember!) come through there that I was naturally a Mets fan. I will admit that one of the greatest joys of my 20's was seeing a game a Yankee stadium. There is something special about that place!! 8y
TheSpinecrackersBookClub This is a perfect post. I like everything about it. 8y

Lola I love this! My mom, a native New Yorker, is a die hard Yankees fan-she does a small Christmas tree that is all Yankees. For her 70th birthday, we gave her tickets to a World Series game at Yankee Stadium and Derek Jeter hit a post-midnight homer on her actual birthday. Mr. November gave her the best gift ever! 8y
jessberk13 @Lola that is a famous game!! I'm super jealous! 8y
