The only disappointing thing about this Grimes‘ mystery is that it‘s short I like my Richard Jury stories long and twisty. Beginning with the murder of a Frenchwoman in Hell Bay on Bryher Island, Jury, retired detective Tom Brownell, and Melrose Plant team up to find the killer as additional deaths occur. Interesting side story about racehorses. I also loved Plant‘s hired nephew, Gerard, and hope we see more of him.

I simply adore Martha Grimes and this was no exception! Reading this was like slipping into a comfy sweater and visiting with old friends. I love the main characters and the eclectic friends; all the characters really. And this story had you thinking you knew, but then second guessing along with the characters. Delightfully amusing!

So bummed! This was supposed to come out in August and has now been pushed back for the second time to November. 😢 It‘s one of my favorite series and Ms Grimes is 87 years old, so there can‘t be too many more coming. I want to get it quicker so that i can appreciate it longer. I highly recommend this series if you like well-written British police procedurals with quirky characters and solid character building. I will miss Jury and Plant.
