Peace in an Unlikely Place
Peace in an Unlikely Place: A Story of Triumph Over Adversity | Crystal Owonubi
1 post | 1 read | 1 to read
Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse after coming out of a difficult and painful childhood, growing up with a single mother, being abused and blamed for it, and having no father figure in my life, my husband was deported to Nigeria, and I was left with nowhere to turn. I had to make the choice whether or not to follow him. I traveled across the world with our 5-year-old daughter to a land I knew nothing about, and to my American mind, it offered only hardships. As the years passed, I was tempted to run away from Nigeria and go home to comforts of American food, running water, and electricity, but I had already made too many bad decisions in my early adult life. After giving my life to Christ in Nigeria, I was eventually able to see the good instead of the bad in Nigeria. I saw the potential of being delivered from a dark past and being able to change my generation. No more divorce. I had the option of giving my children something better than what I had. God placed people in my life who filled a deep void. God gave me a peace to overcome the pains of the past. I ended up embracing the Nigerian culture fully, and even found peace regardless of the strife between Christians and Muslims in Jos, Nigeria. I couldn't imagine how we would ever be able to file for my husband's visa with the harsh immigration laws, but I put all my faith in God and he made all things possible. After eight years in Nigeria, I returned to America with a different mindset and a completely different life.

Wow !! What an amazing story, this is the kind of story almost expected from fiction and movies are made of! But it‘s a #truestory of a young lady faced with hardship and the changes she went through! Growing up in America then later living in Nigeria! I don‘t want to give away too much of the story and encourage all to read this amazing book!!
