"Gingerbread Fred" is one of a series of lively reading books specially created to increase the confidence of young readers. Each familiar fairy story is charmingly told in rhyme or in strong rhythmic prose to make reading fun, and the delightful illustrations help understanding. At the end of each book, a "ready to tell" section encourages children to rearrange episodes from the story and gain confidence by retelling it. Picture dictionary pages illustrate more difficult words and present key words in context. Pale colored backgrounds help dyslexic readers.

She just pulled this out of her backpack and showed the neighbor kid (who is here for some reason). Here‘s the convo that followed...

Her: You wanna read a book?
Friend: Ummm, nah.
Her: Ok, yeah! Let‘s read some.

She started reading to herself while he ran in circles in the living room, BUT she won and now she‘s reading to him. 😂
