POLITICS ARE HELL Kaylin wasnt sent to the West March to start a war. Her mission to bring back nine Barrani might do just that, though. She traveled with a Dragon, and her presence is perceived as an act of aggression in the extremely hostile world of Barrani-Dragon politics. Internal Barrani politics are no less deadly, and Kaylin has managedbarelyto help the rescued Barrani evade both death and captivity at the hands of the Consort. Before the unplanned visit to the West March, Kaylin invited the Consort to dinner. For obvious reasons, Kaylin wants to cancel dinnerforever. But the Consort is going to show up at the front door at the agreed-upon time. The fact that she tried to imprison Kaylins guests doesnt matter at allto her. A private Barrani Hell, built of Shadow and malice, exists beneath the High Halls. It is the High Courts duty to jail the creature at its hearteven if it means that Barrani victims are locked in the cage with it. The Consort is willing to do almost anything to free the trapped and end their eternal torment. And she needs the help of Kaylins houseguestsand Kaylin herself. Failure wont be deathit will be Hell. And thats where Kaylin is going.

Book 14 in the series so you know I like it, but unless you also read it it will make no sense when I saw Kaylin needs to get it together, the author needs to tighten up all Kaylin's inner waffling about being good enough and please write a book that's not about the Barrani (cause they are boring political 😴) Rumor is it's back to the dragons next book. I ❤ Arkon.

Michelle Sagara‘s 14th novel in this series is brilliant! I loved it! I can‘t believe Michelle can write so well as to make half a book about an upcoming dinner riveting! The history, the world building, the characters are all amazing but what strikes me over and over again is the way Michelle captures the struggles of humanity, which are so real, in a fantastical setting in such a way that it reframes them for me!
