Pet Sematary (Media Tie-In)
Pet Sematary (Media Tie-In) | Stephen King
Soon to be a major motion picture from Paramount Pictures starring John Lithgow, Jason Clarke, and Amy Seimetz! Stephen King's #1 New York Times bestseller Pet Sematary, a "wild, powerful, disturbing" (The Washington Post Book World) classic about evil that exists far beyond the grave--among King's most iconic and beloved novels. When Dr. Louis Creed takes a new job and moves his family to the idyllic rural town of Ludlow, Maine, this new beginning seems too good to be true. Despite Ludlow's tranquility, an undercurrent of danger exists here. Those trucks on the road outside the Creed's beautiful old home travel by just a little too quickly, for one thing...as is evidenced by the makeshift graveyard in the nearby woods where generations of children have buried their beloved pets. Then there are the warnings to Louis both real and from the depths of his nightmares that he should not venture beyond the borders of this little graveyard where another burial ground lures with seductive promises and ungodly temptations. A blood-chilling truth is hidden there--one more terrifying than death itself, and hideously more powerful. As Louis is about to discover for himself sometimes, dead is better...

When the heat index is over 110 degrees, and it‘s a Sunday afternoon, what should you do?

Read!

This year, I have been really trying to dive into more Stephen King books, and Pet Semetary is already setting itself up to become another one of my favorites. Just about to reach the halfway point and can not wait to see where this book leads.

I saw the newest film adaptation (of course) and am now interested in rewatching the older movie.

MrT Its of its time. Generally a terrible adaptation , like most of the 1980s SK adaptations. 2d
MrT My all time fav is Misery, followed closely by Needful Things. 2d
allureofbeauty I think the older one is better because it stuck more to the plot. Also Jud is amazing in it. And this is also amazing on audio. 2d

My Stephen King themed Quarterly box from Spearcraft Book Box arrived today and I am loving it. These are just a few of the awesome goodies that were jam packed into the box (the items pictured not the books). There is mug with the same design as the bookmark & it just may be my new favorite. The SS Georgie candle smells amazing & I may be obsessed with the Pet Semetary pin (if only I had a vest or something to wear it on).

At the sentence level, it‘s average—but once King gets the story going, it‘s so intense! Pet Sematary will not disappoint if you‘re looking for something to keep you reading far into the night—and then it will keep you up freaked out about it when you finish. Yeah, it‘s pretty good!

I had a busy month! My favorite read for June was definitely Stephen King‘s Pet Sematary! I read IT in May and though I enjoyed IT, I think Pet Sematary scared me more!!! 😬

My least favorite book this month was The Women‘s War. I would definitely have to suggest you pass on this one if you are considering it. It just never got exciting enough for me. ☹️

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Great job! I loved Ready Player One, so much nostalgia. 😊📖💖 3w
SaintEmmi Yes!!! Ready Player One was one of my favorites last month, too. City of Brass didn‘t disappoint and The Tiger‘s Wife was surprisingly delightful, as well! 3w

This is my first horror book I‘ve read when I was a kid. Years later, this book still scares the crap out of me! It‘s so creepy, horrifying yet so sad to read the book. And I didn‘t read it during the night. The narrator is very capable of creating the scary atmosphere. 😖 #horror #audiobook

BookwormAHN My hold at library still hasn't come in for Pet Sematary but I'm ready for next month's chat on Christine. 1mo
TheBookAddict So, who else was at the end like, what?!? What happened after she came back?!? Was she an evil demon or was he right? Did he have to burry her ASAP so she could come back more like herself? What happened after that? Did they go to Florida? What happened to Ellie? So many question!!! 😔 I need to call King and ask him all of these questions 😝. 1mo
Ashley_Nicoletto @TheBookAddict Me! 🤣🤣 I have so many open questions still. I didn‘t particularly care for this one. It wasn‘t my favorite King. I mostly felt like the book was moving along at a pretty slow case and then BOOM everyone‘s being resurrected from the dead. 1mo
Karkar @TheBookAddict me too!! I loved this one. It was the first time I read it. 1mo
TheBookAddict @Ashley_Nicoletto true, it was a bit slow, but I still liked it. It seems like he was making sure to develop his characters quite a bit, maybe so you‘d feel more for them the stuff hit the ceiling fan. In some parts I was a bit impatient for him to get to the good stuff though. @Karkar it was also my first time reading it. Now I need to go watch the movie 😆. 1mo

#QuotsyJune19 Day 11: I find the #Doctor in this version way better than the very first one. The movie was creepy but not creepy enough, methinks.

batsy I'm usually the one who's super afraid of every horror movie but this one didn't really have a lasting scare factor, which surprised me. Mildly creepy but I forgot about it after it was over. Haven't read the book or watched the first adaptation, though! 1mo
rohit-sawant @batsy I felt likewise. John Lithgow stole the show for me and it had some nice imagery, but other than that it was rather tame. The first half being packed full of exposition didn't help. So looking forward to your thoughts on the book! And agreed @GatheringBooks, Jason Clarke was perfect for the role! 1mo
GatheringBooks @batsy that‘s the thing about it - completely forgettable, it doesn‘t leave an imprint. but i remember the book being quite haunting when i read it in my early 20s. the first tv adaptation was quite horrid, really. 1mo

Last book in the halfoweenathon but I completed it after readathon. My 1st King's book read👍In my opinion, horror part was in the last 30 pages but movie is scarier. There are very sad scenes. He made some social criticism about mourning and burial processes. Some scenes were too long.Character driven story. Very curious where the story idea came from.Author explained it in the introduction.I enjoyed it & motivated me to read more of his books.3.75⭐️

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've never read a book that literally gave me goosebumps before. For the last 30 pages, the hair was standing up on my arms, and I had chills running up my spine. It was seriously creepy. King is a master storyteller, and I think this is one of the best books I've read by him. I do NOT want to see the movie or ever read this again, though. And I'm glad I finished this when it was still daylight. Now for something lighter.

Aaronlisa That is probably one of his scariest books. And the hardest to read. 2mo

It's been long enough 25+ years that I think it will be like reading it for the first time. I've seen the original movie bit am on the fence about watching the new one. 2mo

Pet Sematary by Stephen King is an intense tale about family and how far someone will go to bring things back to “normal.”

I have been hearing that this is by far Mr. King‘s most terrifying novel. With the latest movie adaptation out now, I finally had the time to pick this one up.

Billypar @Centique That's funny because the one other movie I saw as a kid that I remember being as scary was Poltergeist (and the sequel). As an adult I'm cursed with not being scared enough: I'm always grateful when I find a horror movie that scares me. 3mo
batsy @Centique @Billypar Haha, I love this! I watched Poltergeist as a kid and it totally freaked me out, as well. For a long time! Along with Omen and Exorcist. Centique @Billypar I fluked watching the scariest ones ha! 😂 That‘s typical of me. 3mo

This one really made an impact of being especially disturbing and dark when I read it the first time years ago. I would say that‘s still very true. The feeling of dread is strong with this one. I kept hoping it would turn out differently this time!! (It didn‘t.)
