Our Lady of Guadalupe
Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of the Civilization of Love | Carl Anderson, Eduardo Chavez
1 post | 2 read
Carl Anderson's investigation into the mystery of the Virgin Mary's appearance in Mexico in 1531 seeks to enliven the cultural richness of the Catholic Church in the Americas by embracing Our Lady of Guadalupe as the patroness of all the Americas, accessible to English- and Spanish-speaking Catholics alike. The book begins by explaining the history of the apparition of Our Lady to a native peasant, Juan Diego, in Mexico in the 16th century and shows how she has become one of the most important Catholic figures in the Western Hemisphere.

Pickpick

I didn't have a lot of the background knowledge, and the book doesn't provide that until the end. However, it does provide a really good interpretation of each element of the encounter, so it's not inaccessible. It's a little repetitive at times, but overall, I found it interesting.
