The Marquis Takes a Bride
The Marquis Takes a Bride: Regency Royal 2 | M.C. Beaton
1 post | 1 to read
Miss Jennie Bemyss was in a position that any intelligent young lady would envy. The wealthy, worldly Marquis of Charrington proposed a marriage of convenience that would leave him free to pursue his pleasures, and leave Jennie free of his undoubtedly depraved desires. At the same time, handsome charming Guy Chalmers, whom Jennie had loved since childhood, proposed to aid her in enjoying her freedom to the fullest. Jennie should have felt relief at being left alone at last by a man whom she should properly despise. She should have felt even happier to be courted by a man whom she had so long adored. Why, then, did she feel so confused??

I was overbooked and overworked this weekend and Monday, so I sought audio solace in form of more M.C. Beaton writing as Marion Chesney. The author really researched the habits, manners, dress and custom of the times (the men go out to the lawn to relieve themselves bc that was the custom of the time) or the ladies speak with a lisp (not in this particular book, because of time period), which I love. Continued in comments-

MidnightBookGirl Of course, the romance is fairly of it's time too- so the men are all bossy and the women are often overcome by their husband's masculinity, but Beaton writes with a sharp wit. Enjoying this one now! 5y
