Well written and engaging, this book is one I‘m glad I stumbled upon. It is memoir and politics and natural history all served up with warmth and humor. My only complaint is that he talks about the 100‘s of photographs he took of the Akhal-Teke horses, but the book has none. I had to Google this image of the breed. I‘m glad I bought it for a reading challenge in 2018. I didn‘t finish the challenge but I found some great books, including this one.
I have to go extrovert tonight at a party with my husband‘s colleagues, so I‘m stealing a few minutes in my new reading nook to read a chapter or two of this well-written memoir.
OMG, this book was published in 1994. I wonder how the author feels about our current “production values.” 🙄
“The construction cranes grouped around the complex looked like a herd of dragons browsing on concrete broccoli.”
This book is funnier than I expected!
My January TBR, sort of. The bottom three are the eBook I‘m 50% through, my IRL book club pick, and the #shakespearereadalong. The tagged book I bought for an around the world challenge that I didn‘t finish in ‘18. I‘m not officially doing #MountTBR, but I‘m going to try to read more books I already have this year. However, I start a new job in a new field this month, so who knows how my reading time will be affected. #anewchapter #newbeginnings
