The Hex Files
The Hex Files: Wicked Never Sleeps | Gina Lamanna
7 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
Welcome to Wicked. Wicked-the paranormal sixth borough of New York-is home to witches and goblins, werewolves and necromancers, elves and vampires...and former Detective Dani DeMarco. Dani's busy with the grand opening of her family's pizza parlor, when a knock on the door leaves her face to face with the stunning, yet lethal vampire in charge of the NYPD's supernatural branch-Captain Matthew King. There's been a high profile double homicide in the Sixth Borough, and Dani's peculiar talent is the only hope to untangle the web of lies and magic connecting the dead victims. As the case spirals into a pulse-pounding chase, Dani's not sure what's worse: the fact that a ruthless killer has his sights set on her, or that her feelings for New York's most infamous vampire have returned... All is fair in love and war, but passion is downright Wicked...

This is for the fourth book in the Hex Files series. Really loved the way the mystery of the hex files unfolds in this one. Multiple murders, the conflict in cultures between the vampires and werewolves, further development of side characters. Loved it all!

This review is for the third Hex Files book. Loved this one! The relationship dynamics between Dani, Matthew, and Gray avoid love triangle cliches. The mystery is very strong, taking us into the world of the elves and giving us a better understanding of the hex files. Fun book that sets up the future of the series and made me want to read more!

This review is for the second Hex Files book. The mystery was fine, but I didn't love the direction the love story seemed to be going and was afraid the series was going to get stuck in the Stephanie Plum trap (i.e. an endless love triangle with no character growth for anyone). Luckily, the third book avoids that so I do recommend this as the series improves. But the character choices and tropes in this sequel makes it a bit of a slog.

A retired witch detective gets pulled back in for one last case when the mayor of NYC's hidden magic district is found murdered along with a goblin girl. Really enjoyed that this book held back. The characters clearly have a past history affecting their choices but it's not spelled out. See what I did there? Liked the world building. Looking forward to the next one. #WinterGames #SlayBells #ImpulseRead @MidnightBookGirl @StayCurious @Clwojick

I‘ve enjoyed this series so far. If you are at all into the supernatural or just like a good mystery then this series will entertain you.
