It took me a looooong time to invest in the central relationship, partly because the pacing‘s a bit odd, but this romance‘s good qualities outweigh its faults. Every scene between Natalie and her family is GOLD. They bounce off each other in awesome, often hilarious, ways, and Lau highlights their imperfections as well as their strengths. She‘s also an unrepentantly Canadian writer who eschews Americanization in all ways. More like this, please.

Gonna sit outside and finish this book while I drink tea. I managed to get today‘s run in (at 4:00 instead of first thing), but I ain‘t good for much else tonight. Fingers crossed whatever bug I picked up has about run its course.

UwannaPublishme Hope you‘re feeling better so can enjoy the holiday weekend. 5y
xicanti @UwannaPublishme thanks! It‘s just a regular old weekend here, but this exhaustion is never nice to fight through. 5y

Jackie Lau romcom + more excellent Fiasco gelato. (I‘ve had it for a few days, which is why there‘s so little left. It‘s DELICIOUS, people.)

Now I‘ve read 1.5 of her books, I think I can say Lau‘s gonna be one of those romance writers where I like the characters as individuals but I never invest in them as a couple. Oh well. Natalie and her family are interesting enough that I‘ll still finish this.

Damn you, ebook discounts! I got a kick out of Jackie Lau‘s second Chin-Williams romance, so OF COURSE I had to nab the first one when I saw it was on for $0.99. (It‘s one of those romance series you can read in any order.)

writerlibrarian I have these on my TBR list 💜 5y

This one was decent! The setting was fun, and I recognized a lot of the places. The dialogue was stilted at times, but overall I enjoyed this story about a cranky, biracial, child-free by choice heroine and the cinnamon roll hero.
