This is the first of the new series that follows on from the Sinclair mysteries and I really enjoyed it. My reading dates on this look long, but I actually started over and read it within 24 hours. It‘s a fun story - with a spy thread and a tiny monarchy in peril thread that has nods to Ruritanian royals of Girls Own stories gone by. Lots of fun.

JamieArc That cover looks really fun! 3y
Verity @JamieArc it is isn‘t it? And it‘s really apt for the book: slightly older middle grade mystery thriller spy caper. Bingo 3y
rockpools Aaah! It follows on from another series! That makes so much more sense - I was reading it as the first in the series and getting quite annoyed m. Thought it was just clunky getting started. Will give up and try the Sinclair series instead. Thank you ☺️ 2w

Katherine Woodfine‘s latest historical adventure for children aged 9+ continues the SINCLAIR MYSTERIES SERIES, combining mystery and espionage to fast-paced effect while featuring evocative illustrations by Karl James Mountford. Because Sophie and Lil are older now, Woodfine introduces the younger characters of Anna and Alex to keep the target audience interested while making full and clever use of the intrigue and paranoia of the period.
