Historical romance set in England in 1799. A traumatised solider returns from India to a derelict estate and hostile family. A widow and her young son avoid her manipulative father by living in a small village, just about making ends meet. A full cast of secondary characters enriches their story.

My March wrap up. Managed 11 books this month which is quite good. Am hoping as I have two weeks off this month that it will be higher for April.

Oh what a lovely story. This isn't my usual genre but I actually really loved the story. It's a long one so seemed quite daunting but the story builds steadily to a perfect ending. I really enjoyed the plot and the ending. I loved the fact that it's not an obvious love story or heavily focussed on that. Theres so much more to the story. There's a couple of dramatic moments that were well done but it was the steady development that I really loved.

A pleasant and gentle Regency romance. I very much enjoyed this heartwarming and well written tale. It‘s a slow burner and it‘s not one to be rushed either. It meanders along. I really liked the characters - I found myself quite immersed in their respective stories and was rooting for them throughout. An accomplished and absorbing debut.
