This is by one of my favorite children‘s illustrators. The pointillist style pencil drawings are detailed and entrancing! And the story itself is the perfect amount of scary for little kids, complete with a wonderful happy ending.

Spooky and fun. Great for inferential thinking. A widow finds help from an old witch's broom.

I'm a huge fan of Van Allsburg but this was a new to me title that I recently spotted at the book store.

The illustrations in this book were amazing. I loved their old-fashioned style and the greys and browns. And the story was interesting. I want a broom like the one in this story. I mean, it plays the piano! 😂

For #ghastlyghosts the story of a ghostly witches broom. "She has seen the ghost of the broom. It was as white as snow and moved through the woods at night carrying an axe...The next night it returned, circling even closer, and the night after it came again, tapping the axe lightly on the door..." I love the illustrations (and it isn't actually as menacing as my quote makes it sound!) Perfect #hallowreads for #raisingreaders

I asked my teacher sister-in-law for a suggestion of a Halloween book that isn't scary for #allhallowsread today. She told me she had just finished reading The Widow's Broom to her 3rd grade class. I looked it up and it sounds great! #giveascarybook @litsy
