This was the last book I read for 2018. I really enjoyed this collection of short stories. A lot of the stories had similar themes of family conflict and identity and had some reoccurring characters, but that's what I liked about it.
*I apologize for being M.I.A. on Litsy. School has been quite busy. I do have more books that i will be reading during the month of December and I will be taking photos and weiting reviews. Please be patient with me. Thanks for you consideration and for the followers that I have made on this reading app!!!
My favorite chapter in this book is the last chapter. Here is a snippet of the last chapter: My father said, "I forgive you." "For what?" I said. "For everything." ... "No, I said I FOEGIVE YOU. I didn't say thank you." "You don't need to thank me," my father said. "I'm your father." (p141-142)
May Lee Chai, a creative writing professor at SF State, intelligently wrote this book to show what it is like to be an immigrant in America. She writes with comical language and even makes things subtle in the book where one has to guess or interpret what she means. Nothing is said directly... 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
