Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor (Target Collection) | Steven Moffat
16 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
Discover the new Doctor Who classics. When the entire universe is at stake, three different Doctors will unite to save it. The Tenth Doctor is hunting shape-shifting Zygons in Elizabethan England. The Eleventh is investigating a rift in space-time in the present day. And one other the man they used to be but never speak of is fighting the Daleks in the darkest days of the Time War. Driven by demons and despair, this battle-scarred Doctor is set to take a devastating decision that will threaten the survival of the entire universe... a decision that not even a Time Lord can take alone. On this day, the Doctors different incarnations will come together to save the Earth... to save the universe... and to save his soul.

Normally a novelization from movie or TV show can't be good, but this one is a fun read. As if watching the 50th Anniversary Special again but with words only. I love that it's written by Steven Moffat himself, its witty & lots of sass with extra details the TV special didnt have, almost like script with behind the scenes. Perfect for DW fan. Oh how I miss the 10th & 11th Doctor!

So GOOOOOD! Very cleverly structured (I could practically hear Moffat chuckling to himself as he wrote) in order to present a very timey-wimey story on paper. Now I have to rewatch the episode!

Traci1 Ooh I need this one. 5y

I seriously cannot recommend this book strongly enough. Moffat takes his most fan-servicey Who story then dials the fan service up to 11 (you see what I did there?) while also using some cool narrative tricks to give the 50th anniversary adventure a fresh feel. It's two bucks on Amazon, so if you don't already have this on your Kindle treat yourself this Black Friday.

Super excited to get this book mail today! The new Target novels for Doctor Who!!

acg I love how retro the covers look! 6y
Jgotham I‘m eager to hear ur thoughts and review. I haven‘t read a Doctor Who novel before but I like the show 6y
Laura317 @seekingthespheres I have some old Target novels, and these will fit right in. 6y
Laura317 @JHgotham I have read several of the newer novels, but not these. The older novels kept Whovians going in the years where there was no show. Some are really good. 6y

I had forgotten that I preordered The Day of the Doctor, Steven Moffat‘s novelization of his 50th anniversary episode. I usually stay away from the adaptations of particular episodes but a book full of the 10th and 11th Doctors bantering is too enticing to pass up.

Also used some B&N coupons to get the first 2 volumes of New Super-man.

I think I have a new favourite Doctor Who book! Novelizing his script for the show's fiftieth anniversary, Steven Moffat manages to make Day Of The Doctor feel like whole new story with a creative narrative structure and lots of additional information that didn't make the broadcast version. If this is Moffat's final contribution to Who, he's definitely ending on a high note. A must read for Doctor Who fans! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

rabbitprincess Looking forward to getting my hands on this one! 6y

‘Old man, why do you treat your current danger as if it were an educational opportunity?‘

‘Because, ma‘am, I have never encountered a danger that wasn‘t.‘

The Universe is vast, and it goes on for a very long time. And do you know what that means? It means that everything that can happen will happen somewhere eventually—that‘s the rule. That means every story you can make up, will actually happen one day, somewhere in space and time. The only difference between a factual book and a fictional book is that factual books are written after the event, and fictional books are written before the event.

"He looked vital and wiry, in a tight suit and tie. The big dark eyes would have seemed tearful if the face hadn‘t been so cheeky. He stood like he was posing for an album cover, feet planted wide on the ground, fists balled at his sides, head angled for maximum glare; as skinny and sharp and clever as Mum‘s favourite in a boy band."

The Tenth Doctor, as described by the Eleventh

The first of what I hope are many such footnotes in this book.

‘Ah,‘ he thought, with a big smile, ‘I‘m an idiot this time!‘ That was good, he‘d always liked being an idiot.

The Doctor had always loved distress calls. They appealed to his vanity. He lived for the thrill of stepping through a door, and seeing all those faces turn towards him in hope and wonder. The danger, too, was delicious. More than delicious; over time it had become necessary. Danger is the only true palliative for a guilty man. And certainly the only drug strong enough for the Doctor.

On a whim I picked up Steven Moffat's novelisation of the fiftieth anniversary special Day Of The Doctor, and so far it's a blast. Moffat expands on the original script with fun details (like the fact that the first six years of the show were in black & white because the First and Second Doctors were colour blind) and insights (the Doctor thinks in the third person). And in a perfectly Moffat move, the book starts with chapter 8!

TobeyTheScavengerMonk Definitely will be reading this. 6y
