Failed
Failed: What the "experts" Got Wrong about the Global Economy | Mark Weisbrot
3 posts
"Why did the Eurozone end up with an unemployment rate more than twice than that of the United States and six years after the collapse of Lehman Brothers? Was crisis in the Eurozone inevitable? What caused the prolonged economic failure experienced by the majority of the world's low- and middle-income countries at the end of the 20th century? Failed analyzes and ties together some of the most important economic developments of recent years with the common theme that they have been widely misunderstood and in some cases almost completely ignored. A central argument of Failed is that there are always viable alternatives to prolonged economic failure. Author Mark Weisbrot shows that political agendas are often the root cause of avoidable financial crises and drawing on lessons learned from previous crises, recessions, and subsequent recovers can prevent further failures in the future"--

I fell off the wagon. Had a huge NetGalley requesting binge recently and in the last few days this has happened 😳 At my current reading rate it will now take me approximately 10 years to clear my backlog. This will keep me awake at night! Why do I do it to myself?! 😭

Has anyone had to walk away from NetGalley due to being overwhelmed? I just can't resist requesting - I mean, it's free books & who doesn't want free books?!!

readingjedi Argh! Since posting this less than 10 minutes ago I've had 2 more approvals, taking my TBR total to 423 books. I'M DOOMED 🥺 3y
IhoardBOOKS I keep telling my partner I may need her to change my password and keep it secret from me until I catch up with my Netgalley requests 😂 looks like you got a lot to keep you busy, hope there are some treasures in there. 3y
TheAromaofBooks I realized pretty early on that ARCs were not for me. I know a lot of people are okay with reading them whenever or not getting to them, but I get so stressed when I see publishing dates approaching and books still unread!! Now my book blogging about whatever books strike my fancy feels more like the fun hobby I wanted it to be - the ARCs made me feel like it was an unpaid job!! 3y

readingjedi @IhoardBOOKS I read Fredrik Backman's Beartown as an ARC and it is one of my favourite books of recent times so, yes, I have found some amazing books 😊 3y
readingjedi @TheAromaofBooks Most of my reviews are posted long after the pub date so there's guilt as well as stress! An unpaid job is exactly what it feels like! Who knew there was a downside to free books? 🤷🏼‍♀️ 3y
Johanna414 Yea, I had to walk away- since I'm a librarian, I would get approved for almost everything I requested. Then I wouldnt want to read them because there was too much pressure to read and review by a certain date. 3y
TheLibrarian I‘ve been thinking about ‘quitting‘ NetGalley. My backlog is huge and I feel awful and overwhelmed. 3y
BookwormM I have 60 odd on my list 😱😱and yes it is overwhelming and then you hear about another great book.... 3y
Kangaj1 I quit Netgalley a few years ago after requesting a ton and not reading. Now I am back but I only have a handful of titles there at a time. 3y
thebacklistbook I quit netgalley several years ago due in part to this backlog issue (I had stopped requesting already because I didn't want to get behind), and due to my inability to read long term on a screen. At that time they certainly didn't offer audiobooks as an alternative. If you feel you need to walk away, I say go for it. 3y
Tera66 I tell myself I'm just going to browse and not request every time I log on, but that's the devil talking! I've debated on deleting my account. I have so many of my own books to read. I feel you on this! 3y

I didn't do a very good job at all with the #24in48 readathon challenge this weekend. In fact, I failed miserably. Dang it! LoL I knew I'd never hit 24hrs but thought I'd make it further than my 4+hrs. 🙄Oh well, it's been a nice weekend with my girls. And I did read one book, so I'll take it. ☺️

Good luck to the rest of you still working towards your goal. There's still time left!

@24in48

Kalalalatja Reading is reading, whether it is for 4 or 24 hours 😉👍 5y
