Ellen Gilchrist makes me want to write. Her characters can be such terrible, realistic people. Partly, it's because this book is from the 80s and most of Gilchrist's work that I've read is from the 80s. But, she presents these people without judgment. They judge each other often enough, but the narration is neutral. She's such a skillful, observant writer.
