Itchyfeetreader I adored this book as a 10 year old. To an adult reader it‘s kind of downton abbey esque but the social history, love story and war detail captivated me. This is I think when I first starting taking an interest in history 4y

Some Other War | Linda Newbery

In a way this series of books (there is also one about the Dublin uprising) led me to a love of history and historical fiction. At the grand old age of 10 it was also the first time I had read about the suffragettes although attending an all girls school it wasn‘t the last time!! (Kind Ghosts is my original from 1991I lent someone the other book and never got it back but recently replaced!) . 😢 on reread themes are pretty mature in places!
