Thunderhead (Export)
Thunderhead (Export) | Neal Shusterman
Rowan and Citra take opposite stances on the morality of the Scythedom, putting them at odds, in the chilling sequel to the Printz Honor Book Scythe from New York Times bestseller Neal Shusterman, author of the Unwind dystology. The Thunderhead cannot interfere in the affairs of the Scythedom. All it can do is observe--it does not like what it sees. A year has passed since Rowan had gone off grid. Since then, he has become an urban legend, a vigilante snuffing out corrupt scythes in a trial by fire. His story is told in whispers across the continent. As Scythe Anastasia, Citra gleans with compassion and openly challenges the ideals of the "new order." But when her life is threatened and her methods questioned, it becomes clear that not everyone is open to the change. Will the Thunderhead intervene? Or will it simply watch as this perfect world begins to unravel?

Loving this series with its complex and intriguing world and fascinating characters. In Scythe we get to see journal entries of scythes that gave insight into their thoughts, personalities and motives. In Thunderhead the breaks between chapters are the thoughts of the Thunderhead, an AI system that has become sentient, that utilizes its knowledge, wisdom and moral compass to perfect and protect humankind from disease and itself. Pure genius.

I‘ve started Thunderhead while waiting to put my son‘s basketball practice clothes in the dryer. Why do they never remember until 10 pm that they need all they things washed? I am giving him grace this time but next time he is going to just have to figure it out. Also, I love the book so far ❤️

This sequel was more mind-blowing than Scythe. The idea behind this series is so unique, and I'm just in awe right now. The intimate glimpses into the Thunderhead's conscience added a complex and emotional layer to the story. We got further character & plot development, & my heart is still beating out of my chest. I'll probably take a couple of weeks off before I read the final installment so I don't have an anxiety-induced aneurysm. 5 stars

I finished Thunderhead last night and it was easily as good as, if not better than the first. I can't wait to read The Toll! I really like all the food for thought provided by the parts from the perspective of the Thunderhead. Often, when there's going to be a sequel, the ending is less than satisfying. Not so with this one. Schusterman leaves it open for book three while providing a surprising and satisfying ending to book two.

An action-packed follow-up to Scythe.

Lots of political intrigue and murder. Oh, and the ending is one heck of a cliffhanger, so make sure you have the next book handy.

Thunderhead was everything I hoped for, and more. I read the first book, Scythe, years ago & forced myself to wait to read Thunderhead until the final book in the trilogy was being released. Now that time has come! The Toll is coming out tomorrow 11/5, and I can't wait for my pre-order to arrive. Neal Shusterman is an absolute genius. I've never read a book of his that disappointed me. If you haven't started this series yet, I highly recommend it!

“A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: humanity has conquered all those things and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life—and they are commanded to do so in order to keep the size of the population under control.” Thunderhead continues the story of these #grim reapers, and I need to read it ASAP. I loved Scythe, and The Toll releases soon.

If you thought Scythe was good, and I am definitely in that camp, I highly recommend Thunderhead. Continuing the story from Scythe, Neal has done a fantastic job at setting up this fictional world. You really get a sense of how this society functions. Following along with Citra and Rowan, a whole new slew of characters are introduced to our world. Very excited for The Toll to find out how this Trilogy ends.

"Over these many years, I have observed both profound folly and breathtaking wisdom among humankind. They balance each other like dancers in the throes of a passionate tango. It is only when the brutality of the dance overwhelms the beauty that the future is threatened."

This series is now in my top ten... eh, top five, honestly. It's taken me out of my reading slump, and given me loads to think about in regards to morality and mortality. ???

Just pulled an all nighter to finish this and wow that ending was so fast. So many things going on all at once. Some things happened the way I thought they would, others not so much. With a title like that, of course we get more info and even some snippets from the thunderhead which I thought were interesting. Looking forward to the next one.

Holy Cliffhanger!

I enjoyed this one probably more than the first book Scythe, and I loved that one too. Shusterman does an excellent job of making the reader think about moral issues, while delivering a fast-paced, creative story full of action.

I can't wait for the next one to see what twists he comes up with for our junior scythes.

Eos462 I have really enjoyed this series. It has its predictable moments at times, but not so much that you 2ant to slap the author. I really love the world. Do you feel its a little instalove-y though? Maybe instalove isnt the right word, because the romance definitely plays more on the backburner. I hope there is more time spend in the next one with the two MCs interacting to make it feel more natural. 6mo
Addison_Reads @Eos462 I kinda feel like the romance was just sorta tossed in, so yes, it is a bit insta-love. I'm thinking we'll get more of just the two of them in the next installment, especially considering how this one ended. I agree with you though, the world created is really well done. 6mo

Omg this book takes like everything good from the first book and explodes it (I mean this in an epic, good way). Philosophy? Boom. Plot? Boom. Thunderhead? Boom. Scythedom? Boom. It all gets bigger and more detailed and better and more corrupt and more fascinating and more ominous and this was SUCH A GOOD SEQUEL. Like seriously people. You MUST read this series. I can‘t stress it‘s quality enough. Idk how I‘m supposed to wait for book 3 now.
