Grace Disguised: How the Soul Grows Through Loss (Enlarged)
Grace Disguised: How the Soul Grows Through Loss (Enlarged) | Jerry L Sittser
4 posts | 1 read | 1 reading | 2 to read
An expanded edition of this classic book on grief and loss--with a new preface and epilogueLoss came suddenly for Jerry Sittser. In an instant, a tragic car accident claimed three generations of his family: his mother, his wife, and his young daughter. While most of us will not experience such a catastrophic loss in our lifetime, all of us will taste it. And we can, if we choose, know as well the grace that transforms it. A Grace Disguised plumbs the depths of sorrow, whether due to illness, divorce, or the loss of someone we love. The circumstances are not important; what we do with those circumstances is. In coming to the end of ourselves, we can come to the beginning of a new life--one marked by spiritual depth, joy, compassion, and a deeper appreciation of simple blessings.

This was a book given to me by my birth mother when we first met in January. In just the first chapter, the author totally nails the grief that knocked me over last April. This will be a slow read. Too much emotion to take in for one setting.

Cinfhen Oh that blurb 💔and how wonderful to have reconnected with your birth mother (edited) 6y
MelAnn @Cinfhen it has been a really good journey! 6y
Cinfhen I‘m so glad to hear that 😊 6y

josie281 I have to read this for my theology class. He is a professor here at my work. My mom passed away last month so I have had it sitting on my desk but haven‘t been brave enough to start t yet. 6y
MelAnn @josie281 I highly recommend the book. I think it will help you. The sooner you start and the slower you can go will be good - it‘s a lot to absorb. I‘m so sorry for your loss! 6y
josie281 @MelAnn what great advise re: the slower you can go! Thank you! 6y
MelAnn @josie281 you are welcome! 6y

It is not what happens to us that matters so much as what happens in us. Jerry Sittser, A Grace Disguised
