Borrowed Names
Borrowed Names: Poems About Laura Ingalls Wilder, Madam C.J. Walker, Marie Curie, and Their Daughters | Jeannine Atkins
2 posts | 1 to read
As a child, Laura Ingalls Wilder traveled across the prairie in a covered wagon. Her daughter, Rose, thought those stories might make a good book, and the two created the beloved Little House series. Sara Breedlove, the daughter of former slaves, wanted everything to be different for her own daughter, A'Lelia. Together they built a million-dollar beauty empire for women of color. Marie Curie became the first person in history to win two Nobel prizes in science. Inspired by her mother, Irne too became a scientist and Nobel prize winner. Borrowed Names is the story of these extraordinary mothers and daughters. Borrowed Names is a 2011 Bank Street - Best Children's Book of the Year.

Loving the #LitsyHandle tag so I thought I'd join in, even though there's not much of a story behind mine. @Chelleo
My first name is Laura and, as you probably guessed, I'm a huge Potterhead. The Weasleys are probably the fictional family I'd want to be a part of most. ❤ Harry Potter was what really got me into reading so the series holds a very special place in my heart. Also, my last name starts with We, so it's actually not that far off. 😁

Chelleo I was watching the 2nd movie today and my favorite part is when Harry visits their house for the first time. 6y
LauraWeasley @Chelleo Oh my god, yes! Don't you just instantly feel at home? I love the Burrow, it's such a unique and quirky home. What I wouldn't give to live there... 😄 6y
catebutler Love your handle! And HP will always have a special place in my heart, too! It makes me think of my childhood. 6y
LauraWeasley @catebutler Why, thank you! 😊 Oh yes, Harry Potter was my childhood, too (and youth). It's so special and it's just incredible how it connects people of all ages all over the world. 💜 6y
