Stuck in a Rut
Stuck in a Rut: Power, Sex, Food, and Other Little Addictions : Leader's Guide | Rick Bundschuh
3 posts
This tough but common issue is addressed not by primarily focusing on, say, drugs or sex but from a Biblical perspective on human nature. Every installment of Highway Video will be themed. A subtle thread will tie the segments together, treating important themes like self-esteem, grace, discouragement, encouragement, grief, guilt, and forgiveness. Taken together, the segments will present thoughtful -- and thought-provoking -- video statements from many sides in many modes.

Guys. I've been in such a rut this month with reading. I think I went a little too extreme in January with reading that I burned myself out some. What does everyone here do when they're in a reading funk?

Richryan52 @Callemarie I just got out of such a funk. I found two stories by one of my favorite authors that I hadn‘t read and that got me back in the groove. Hope this helps 5y
Zelma I just going out of a long funk as well. Lots of tv and piles of books that I abandoned. I just allow the funk to run its course and keep stopping books that aren‘t working. Usually a narrative nonfiction, middle grade or YA fantasy or some lighter fiction will get me out of it. Nothing to heavy or dense. 5y
Hoopiefoot TV and a trashy beach read. 5y

Hestapleton Same here! Went so hard in January and now I‘m burned out. Reading lots of ya and manga/graphic novels. Audiobooks help too. 5y
Suet624 Your desire will come back. Just consider it a tiny pause. 5y
Crazeedi I resort to podcasts or online articles or book reviews, just short blurbs that get me interested again. Also fresh air. Sometimes I bring home library books and they all go back unread. Then I look at ones I own and it's meh... months later all my books look so interesting I can't decide, and every library books a hit. Just relax ... this too shall pass 5y
Godpants Same as @Crazeedi I find a few podcasts can help me get back in the zone. 5y
PurpleyPumpkin Ugh, it happens. You‘ll get out of it. Maybe you just need a bit of a break. And then it‘ll be full steam ahead! I usually try to keep reading audiobooks until the phase passes. I find that eventually I come across a book that is so interesting that I can‘t stop reading. And then on to the next! 😉 5y
ApplesandSpindles Agree with the podcasts. What did people do before those?!! I can't even remember anymore! Lol! 5y
Laura317 Netflix binge and audiobooks as I do other things helps me. 5y
whatsthEStorey I went hard in January too and have been disinterested and put several books down this month. I find that if I go outside my comfort zone to something I have less expectations of, like nonfic or YA, I do better. Audio helps, too. 5y
TheBookgeekFrau Crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles are great diversions when I'm in a reading slump 5y

Samary

Have you ever fallen into the dreaded Reading Rut? I‘m currently in a slump and NOT for lack of material. I tend to just ride it out.

How do you get out of your rut?

Bookworm-Bobbie I‘ve just got out of a reading slump. Try re-reading an old favourite? Someone on here suggested it to me and it worked. Fingers crossed you find something 🤞 6y
Jaayimee I was in a major slump. It lasted years. I just picked up a book from an author I knew I loved and started reading and kept going. It worked. 6y
Avanders Do you have a slump genre? For me, it's probably ya fantasy or sci fi or a thriller. Something that I know will grab me quickly and let me speed through. If you even know your genre, maybe we can suggest good slump-breakers? 6y
Chelsey Yes, let us know your preference and we might have the perfect book for you up our sleeves somewhere. 😁 6y
TheLudicReader That‘s the worst. My Sunshine Away by M.O. Walsh broke me out of my rut a couple weeks ago. 6y
