Cold Pressed Murder
Cold Pressed Murder | Kelly Lane
3 posts | 1 read
Eva Knox and her quirky Southern family are back in the second in the “intriguing”* culinary mystery series. It’s the pits for the attendees of the annual Farm Family Fare in Abundance, Georgia, when olive oil farmer Eva Knox finds herself in the middle of a murder case... Eva and the residents of Knox Plantation are oozing with excitement over the activities planned for the Farm Family Fare. The weekend event consists of two days of tours, exhibitions, music, tastings, and, most important, cooking demonstrations with celebrity chefs from the Chow Network. The enthusiasm, however, begins to dribble away after one of the star chefs goes missing—and is later found dead in the back of a refrigerated truck. The scandal gets messier after the police discover that Eva’s sister Daphne spent the night with the victim right before he died, making her the prime suspect for his murder. It’s up to Eva, with the help of her other sister, Pep, and her best friend, Precious, to track down the real killer before Daphne finds herself squeezed into handcuffs... INCLUDES RECIPES! From the Paperback edition.

I'm rage quitting this one. Between the horrible characterization of the overweight characters, the ridiculously stupid dialogue given to the Scottish guy, the southern drawl being explained every time the oldest sister talks and the fact that it's spiraling so far into Soap Opera territory that I just read two chapters about the characters ex-fiance which ended with her finding out both of her sisters slept with the guy after she left... No.

Getting pretty fed up with this book. There's a character named Precious who is taller and larger than the other women who are all Acceptably Thin. She's a decent person in the story so I'd just assume that she'd just, ya know, be a character. Not so. Where as other characters just get out of a car, Precious throws out "one tree-trunk leg and then the other, before hoisting her big self out of the tiny bucket seats." Con't in comments.

CoveredInRust Then she "lumbered around the front of the Corvette." Later, while eating bread in a restaurant, an Acceptably Thin character "popped it into her mouth" while "Precious nodded, gnawing on a chunk of oil-soaked bread." It's constant in this book. I'm guessing since she's friends with the MC readers are supposed to think that it's funny, but it's just gotten really irritating. Seriously, WTF? 6y
