Claudine In Paris
Claudine In Paris | Colette
3 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
At the age of seventeen Claudine is in despair having left her beloved Montigny for a new life in Paris. Comforted by her devoted maid Melie, her slug-obsessed Papa, and the trustworthy cat Fanchette, Claudine's instinctive curiosity gradually leads to an awakened interest in the city. Ruthless, impetuous and chastely sensual Claudine records her witty observations and adventures amongst the intriguing characters that surround her, evoking the glamour and excitement of Parisian life. Written with striking realism Claudine in Paris is an inspiring portrait of a precocious young girl on the brink of transformation into a woman for her, and our, time.

Cold lockdown night in bed with Colette. It‘s so weird that I read Claudine at School back in March or April way at the beginning of lockdown and reading the sequel now feels like picking something up from years and years ago. I don‘t understand time at all this year and I‘m starting to feel a bit yellow wallpaperish in the flat, nice and new tho it is. If I start saying there‘s a woman in the duvet pattern pls alert someone...

LeahBergen 😆😆 I hear ya! 3y
Gogobooks I read these 3 books a few years ago because I m a Colette completist. The last one suffers from #metoo vibe🤣 but loved this glimpse into another time otherwise. 3y

Pickpick

Pretty good book! Probably considered oh la la! R-rated at the time. A fun read even today with the narrative light-hearted and so self-aware. Oh la la!

Haul from Shakespeare & Co. I was going to get a copy of The Count of Monte Cristo after I heard Celeste Ng talk about it, but they only had an abridged copy. 🙅🏼 I decided to give Colette a spin. I wanted to buy a classic French work (Collete), a contemporary French work (Modiano), and a popular French work I‘d never heard of (Gavalda). Can I stay here forever?

LeahBergen Lovely! For Colette, I also highly recommend 7y
LyndseyReads @LeahBergen ooh! Thanks for the rec! 😊 7y
