An Irish Country Love Story
An Irish Country Love Story: A Novel | Patrick Taylor
4 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
An Irish Country Love Story is the eleventh heartwarming installment in New York Times and Globe and Mail bestselling author Patrick Taylor's beloved Irish Country series. Its the winter of 1967 and snow is on the ground in the colorful Irish village of Ballybucklebo, but the chilly weather cant stop love from warming hearts all over the county. Not just the love between a man and woman, as with young doctor, Barry Laverty, and his fiancee Sue Nolan, who are making plans to start a new life together, but also the love of an ailing pensioner for a faithful dog that's gone missing, the love of the local gentry for the great estate they are on verge of losing, or Doctor Fingal Flahertie OReillys deep and abiding love for his long-time home and practice. For decades, ever since the war, Number One Main Street, Ballybucklebo, has housed OReilly and his practice. In recent years, it has also opened its doors to OReillys wife, Barry Laverty, and a new addition to the practice, Doctor Nonie Stevens, a sultry and occasionally prickly young woman who may not be fitting in as well as she should. It is to Number One that patients young and old come when they need a doctors care, for everything from the measles to a rare and baffling blood disease. An unexpected turn of events threatens to drive OReilly from his home for good, unless the entire village can rally behind their doctor and prove that love really can conquer all. Another wonderful installment of this series. It has me wondering why I waited so long to read it. The cast of colorful, intriguing characters grew by just a few. The author‘s descriptions make me want to book a flight right now. I‘ve ordered the most recent book for hubby as part of his Valentines gift, but I may try to read it first😊

TheKidUpstairs Do these books need to be read in order? My son picked one out for me for Christmas, but I don't know if I need to work my way through the series or if I could just read the one he picked as a stand alone. 5y
Lynnsoprano @TheKidUpstairs The author is very specific that they don‘t need to be read in order, and there are actually a couple I haven‘t read. I would, however, recommend reading the first book, because it really sets the stage and introduces the core characters. If you don‘t mind my asking, which did he give you? 5y
TheKidUpstairs @Lynnsoprano thank you, that's very helpful. He picked this one because he liked the cover (he's 5) 5y

1. An Irish Country Love Story and 1493.
2. The Handmaid‘s Tale
3. It‘s Emerson, so although I don‘t know what it‘s from, I figure it has to be literary: “nothing great was ever done without enthusiasm.”

Well, the doctor confirmed that I have a sore throat and sinus infection. I cancelled my voice students for today, hubby is cooking dinner, and I am going to curl up with the book I intended to start three books ago😄

I decided I needed something a little lighter after The Handmaid‘s Tale. I love this series and its setting of Ballybucklebo. Plus, it will work for #Booked2019 and its set in Ireland prompt.

Crazeedi I totally enjoyed this whole series! 5y
