Columbus Day (Expeditionary Force #1)
Columbus Day (Expeditionary Force #1) | Craig Alanson
18 posts | 15 read | 5 to read
We were fighting on the wrong side, of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news.
The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits.
When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved. The UN Expeditionary Force hitched a ride on Kristang ships to fight the Ruhar, wherever our new allies thought we could be useful. So, I went from fighting with the US Army in Nigeria, to fighting in space. It was lies, all of it. We shouldn't even be fighting the Ruhar, they aren't our enemy, our allies are.
I'd better start at the beginning....

AFTERMATH! Expeditionary Force, Book 16! I loved it!

10 years have passed. Margaret & Joe are married with 7yo twin boys & a girl on the way. Joe‘s taken the family off-planet to play archeologist in a trash dump.

The fate of the universe is in question again so Joe gathers the merry Band of Pirates for another mission.

Skippy‘s baaack! But so are the race of aliens the ancients feared.

I can‘t wait for book 17!

This is the 14th book in this series & the first hard copy that I‘ve bought. It‘s so much bigger than I thought it would be. A favorite series in audiobook form! RC Bray is a fantastic narrator!

🎧 MATCH GAME - Expeditionary Force, book 14! It‘s currently not in the Litsy database.

ALL THE STARS! I love Skippy! AWESOME audiobook! Bought the paperback too. RC Bray‘s bloopers at the end assure you of that one last laugh. Another great action adventure addition to this series. I find myself smiling when characters from previous books show up & are fleshed out a bit more. Hilarious space opera! This is 1 of my guilty pleasures.

🎧📖 The book is actually Breakaway, Expeditionary Force #12 ... I loved the book.

If you‘ve read the previous 11 books you‘ll know what to expect.

Aliens have done something that will turn Earth into an ice cube. Joe, Skippy & the merry band of pirates need to save the world again.

More creative diplomacy.

UGH! Cliffhanger!

RC Bray - narration perfection! I found myself looking for things to do so I could listen! VERY quotable!

I read 33 books in January. Due to reading a bunch of GoodReads 2020 BOTY nominees I had a huge variety of star ratings from crap to perfection!! Some well written, some great characters, some great world building, some were just totally fun reads! Victor Frankl was a re-read so I left it out.

Here are my favorite 16. 🖤💕🖤

🎧 Armageddon (Expeditionary Force #8) So this is my #1 guilty pleasure. I love Skippy! I admit that the book can be brutal & there are swear words & adult situations. The humor is low brow, puerile & sarcastic. I can‘t help it, I love Skippy!! RC Bray narrates this series to perfection! I can‘t wait for book 9! This is an excellent addition to the series. I laughed a lot. Audiobook recommendation. Fun! 🥰 personal rating of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

I have a question for you lovely people who use Audible. When you finish a book, do you "Remove from device?" I'm assuming this just removes it from my phone and it'll still be in my account if I wanted to relisten at some point. But does it still show up in my library list? I haven't played around with it because I was afraid I'd do something that couldn't be undone.

I'd recommend this one, by the way. Narration and story were both terrific.

laurieluna Removing from device usually removes it from that devices downloaded library, however it should still be viewable on the cloud library if that makes sense? 5y
laurieluna Ah audible, not sure about that, but my comment above is how it works for kindle and they're both ran by amazon aren't they? 5y
Traci1 @miralunasbooknook ok. I have a kindle, so that makes sense in comparison to that. So, it would probably still show up as an image of the book in my library, but the book itself wouldn't be downloaded to my phone (like how if I view ALL, as opposed to Downloaded, on my kindle library)? 5y

laurieluna @Traci1 That's what I'd assume, might be best to get confirmation from another audible user though! 5y
Birdsong28 @Traci1 @miralunasbooknook Yeh it stays in your cloud as you own the books even if you unsubscribe from being a member as I bought a book in 2012 from a free trial then ended it then re subscribed in 2017 and it was still there. So when you remove it from your device it just goes from your deviceit to clear up space. As you can listen to books without the internet once downloaded as well. Hope that helps 😘📚📖 5y
Traci1 @Birdsong28 yes, that's exactly what I wanted to know! Thank you!! 😁 5y

Bleh. Just remembered tomorrow is Columbus Day- so while I get an extra day off I can't mail my #halloweengoespostal , #allhallowsreadbookexchange , nor can I receive my #theretellingbookswap. Gosh darn it.

Megabooks ☹️☹️☹️ I forgot. Waiting on my second #botm box. 7y
Mommamanzi Note to self- next time you set the date to open bookswap packages make sure it's not a freaking holiday. Sorry guys!!!! 7y
BethM @Mommamanzi no worries! It's easily overlooked. 7y

Guys this series is freaking amazing. I highly recommend this audio. This is hands down the best audiobook series I have out of a couple hundred. Once you start this series you will not be able to put it down. It‘s great sci-fi, has great humor and opens up a interesting universe of alien races. I play my audiobooks at work and my entire staff loves them and wants to hear more about the characters and story.
