12 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
In Dublin, newly promoted detective inspector Joe Swallow's life looks to be taking a turn for the better. In addition to his promotion, he's settled into a comfortable arrangement with his landlady and paramour, Maria White. That is, until his newfound peace is chaotically uprooted when a series of violent attacks against women lead to an outbreak of panic and fear. Things on the homefront are about to change in an unexpected way. In London, Charles Stewart Parnell tirelessly pursues the Irish cause for Home Rule. While the British are eager to discredit the Irish parliamentary leader and quash the growing movement towards independence, Swallow's conflicted loyalties pull him in different directions. As he continues his hunt for a terrifying killer, Swallow has no choice but to traverse this volatile political scene inA Hunt in Winter, Conor Brady's thrilling third Joe Swallow mystery.

Coffee and a book after my morning walk. Supposed to have high humidity today & be in the 90s. So after early morning grocery shop plan to stay hunkered down in our air conditioned area on the first floor. So enjoying my porch now!

Daisey Lovely way to start the day! 2y
kspenmoll @Daisey I am reveling in it because I decided to no longer work in summers! 2y

#porchlife

Early morning read.
We have had such cool weather in the mornings this month- perfect for walking but my geraniums do not like the lack of heat at all! Notice white petals on the porch floor- shedding & colorful leaves due to lack of heat/fungus developed.

“ ‘All for the empire upon which the sun will never set.‘
‘Indeed,‘ Mallon smiled. ‘And you know why that is?‘
‘Tell me.‘
‘Because God couldn‘t trust the English for what they‘d likely do in the dark.‘

A grand mystery set in 19th century Ireland.

Just finished this. Can't say l completely lived it, which is strange, because there are so many elements that l normally like. Irish history, a great cast if chaeacter, a fantastic historical setting, so vivid.

But the story slucks a bit, especially in the first half. It seems to go every which way, there is never a cohesive structure. Which l suppose is part of the theme, but it really didn't work for me.

Just realised this #NetGalley ARC is going to expires in a few day. Better get a move on.

I'm not particularly involved with the story, which is a huge shame since so many elements are among my favourite literary topics

BibliophileMomma That cover. ❤️ 6y

Didn't have a chance to post earlier. I did manage to pass the halfway point in the novel last night, which was my goal for the #LitsyPartyOfOne

Didn't have as much time as l would have liked, since l'm busy with #nanowrimo too, but l'm happy with both challenges. It was a busy but good weekend.

Thanks to @Ambrosnazzy for organising this once agsin 😊

It's already evening here in ltaly. Can't say it was a great day of reading, but let's see whether l can at least get to 50% of this before #LitsyPartyOfOne is over

#LitsyPartyOfOne

Hit 36% yesterday night.
It's very strange. I like the mystery thread, involving the murder of a young girl and detailing investigation methodes in 1880s Dublin in a very vivid way. I also like the political plot involving historical figure and patriot Charles Parnell.
But l don't know why, this novel is still not clicking with me 🤔

Dividing my weekend between #LitsyPartyOfOne and #nanowrimo

Read today's chapter from the Silmarillion for #LotRChapterADay Now l'm going to add a few more words to my NaNoWriMo count and then l'll be ready to party!

CrowCAH Same here; my reward for writing words is reading a couple chapters! 6y
JazzFeathers @CrowCAH l wasn't so good today. Didn't even wrote the minimum for #NaNoWriMo and l'm sitting down for #LitsyPartyOfOne only now. But hey, it's all good! 6y

#NoteWorthyNovember #NovTBR

Well, l have to admit this is kind of deja vu. Can't say l was very good in October. But at least l'm now reading the Silmarillion with the #LotRChapterADay folk and loving it. And l'm going to start A Hunt in Winter tonight. Quite excited about it too 😁

Gissy I added some of those titles to my wish list 6y
