Halp! A friend just adopted this sweet baby angel from the local shelter after getting the verbal go ahead from his landlord (his lease agreement says no pets), but the landlord has now changed his mind and is demanding little Toast here be sent back to the shelter.

Have you ever successfully convinced a non-pet-friendly landlord to allow pets? Do you have any advice? (Other than pouring cat litter into the landlord's gas tank- that one's mine)

CouronneDhiver 🙁 Maybe the landlord needs to come meet the kitty, help pack him/her up and provide the ride to the shelter. That should be enough to get some compassion flowing and change their mind. No one wants to be “that guy”. How sad. 6y
jillannjohn I vote for the cat litter! 😇 6y

MeganAnn Not sure if this works where you are, but I know people here have gotten a doctor‘s note saying that the pet is for helping a medical or emotional issue (anxiety I believe is common one). If they have a doctor‘s note then legally the landlord has to let them have the pet. Your friend might not qualify or those laws may not be in place there but it may be worth checking into? 6y
FantasyChick I dont know about where you are, but sometimes around here a landlord will allow it if the tenant agrees to pay an additional pet deposit. Hope it all works out! 6y
2BR02B @FantasyChick He offered to pay a non-refundable deposit and a monthly pet fee. Apparently this guy dislikes cats even more than he likes money. 🤔 6y
2BR02B @MeganAnn While I personally think that's a good idea, he said he felt it would be taking advantage of benefits he's not entitled to. 🤷‍♀️ 6y
GripLitGrl Hope it works out & he gets to keep kitty perhaps if he takes a document in writing about pet deposit & agreeing to forfeit security deposit if the cat should damage anything. Typically when landlords have previous bad experience with a tenants pet they can be sticklers. Contracts & $ may help. 6y
Joy0201 I‘ve always thought it odd that people are so against cats. My cat has never destroyed anything. My kids on the other hand.... 6y
