It's a testament to how much I love you lot that I'm sharing this 🙈 This must have been 1995; I was 15. School uniform during the day & my idea of style outside it: oversized t-shirts & acid washed jeans (a relic from the 80s?!). MJ was a fave well into late teens & I attended Malaysia's one & only MJ concert a couple years later. Memories! Ummm... have you guys ever been asked to do this?! It feels so shady and wrong. Context: I ordered a book for my Potterhead Swap match a while back from Wordery. The book arrived damaged, the front of the dusk jacket was all crinkled at the bottom. When I reached out to tell them about it they offered to send me a replacement (yay) but asked me to RIP OUT the title page of the original book and send it back (say whaaa?) 🤭

jpmcwisemorgan I think it‘s to prevent the book being sold as new or being returned to a bookstore. I know books get “damaged” out of stock so that can‘t happen but I thought it was with marks, although when I was a kid I saw it with covers missing. 6y

BookNAround Bookstores have to send these stripped pages (usually it‘s the cover though) back to the publisher to get credit for the damaged book otherwise they have to absorb the loss themselves. 6y

CoffeeCatsBooks Yeah, when I worked in a bookstore we‘d have to rid the covers off the mass market books (and then chuck the books). The store would send the covers in for a partial credit. So sad! 😭 6y

Like, is it ever possible to just send me a new dust jacket? Why rip books? Haha 6y

GarthRanzz I‘ve never been asked by Amazon to do that. They usually demand the whole book back or will charge me twice. Thrift Books always tells me to donate the damaged or mis-graded book. I‘ve never been asked to mutilate it. 6y

jpmcwisemorgan It seems a little excessive to me but 🤷‍♀️. I don‘t pretend to understand. It would make sense to send a new dust jacket but I doubt there are extras of those. Seems like there could be a market for that though... 6y

When you check the tracking on your #HalloweenGoesPostal books and realize that there is a pretty good chance that they won't arrive in time. 🤞that they've given me the worst case scenario dates 😳
