From an article in the NYT by Richard Flanagan:
The bookstore in the fire-ravaged village of Cobargo, New South Wales, has a new sign outside: “Post-Apocalyptic Fiction has been moved to Current Affairs.”
The photo above is of the historic village of Cobargo, at the end of December. I am thinking of everyone affected by the wildfires in Australia. My heart is sad.

Lizpixie It just keeps getting worse here, two people died in Cobargo and there‘s more missing every day. Kangaroo Island is in flames, the whole south coast of NSW had pretty much been evacuated and Kangaroo Valley, which is gorgeous, just south of me, is now being told to get out now. It was 48.5C (120F)in Penrith today & is only now starting to cool down. It feels like the whole country is on fire! Thank you all for your thoughts on behalf of us aussies (edited) 4y
bookwrm526 It is difficult to wrap my head around a lot of the pictures that I‘ve seen from this disaster. I am devastated at the scale of the loss. 4y

Lizpixie I‘m just gobsmacked at the scale of destruction already this fire season. We‘ve lost 13 million acres, 480 million animals estimated dead. 22 people confirmed killed with more missing and god knows how many animals & people injured. Our wildlife refuges are overwhelmed with burned native animals with 2 major zoos also threatened by fire. If we don‘t get rain soon I don‘t know what‘s going to happen, it‘s like a constant dread hanging over you. 4y
