Hidden River | Adrian McKinty

Denver, Colorado: a pretty, clever young girl working for an environmental charity, Victoria Patawasti is sleeping peacefully, unaware that she has barely an hour to live. As her killer slips into her apartment and draws a revolver in the darkness, Alex Lawson wakes up in Belfast. Twenty-four, sickly, and struggling to kick his heroin habit after a disastrous six-month stint in the drug squad of the Northern Ireland police force, Alex badly needs a chance to get back on track. Victoria was his high school love, and when he finds out she has been murdered, he volunteers to help Victoria?s family hunt down the killer. But once in Colorado, Alex has a fight on his hands: wanted by both the Colorado cops and the Ulster police, and uncovering corruption at the highest levels of government, he can solve the case only if he manages to stay alive.

🎧 This 2005 stand-alone is actually set in pre-911/1990s America & features a heroin-addled ex-Peeler from Belfast who heads to Colorado to solve the homicide of his ex-girlfriend before the RUC get to him

With 1900+ reviews on Audible and a 4-Star average, I was encouraged to pull this from my backlist. Unfortunately, I am not as impressed with this as other listeners: I had issues w/the pacing, lackluster narration, and anticlimactic ending 👇

Dogearedcopy The things that save it from a “Pan” rating are some exciting action scenes, and overall plot concept. Readers/listeners will get a glimpse of the author‘s signature “staccato”-style lyricism as well. 6y

🎧 I‘ve got some heavy print reading to do for work tonight and through the weekend, so I probably won‘t start this one until Monday.

I didn‘t know what it‘s about yet, but I expect lyrically written prose with graphic violence; and an audiobook narrator, Gerard Doyle who clearly relishes reading McKinty‘s works.

Swe_Eva Doyle is great at reading McKinty, isn‘t he!! 6y
Dogearedcopy @LT_eva Yes! I loved The Dead Trilogy so much! I‘m not sure why I haven‘t returned to this author/narrator team before now! 6y
