pickWhenever I read a non-whitewashed history of the United States, I am appalled by how pervasive white supremacy has been in the entire history of the United States, including how we continue to teach US history in our schools. Very important and illuminating read.

Reading in the dark for #24in48 🌖⭐️ Our temporary portable AC is only in our bedroom, and my husband goes to sleep waaayyy earlier than I do. So here I am with my booklight, trying to collect some hours and get this book finished for my class Monday 🙃
I‘m reading this for a course I‘m taking at the MFA in Boston next week called “Uncovering America: Power, Art, and Inquiry”. I‘m only about 100 pages in, but it is truly eye-opening. It‘s appalling how much of American history is just left out of textbooks and schools. I‘m thankful for the teachers I had who took risks telling us the not-so-pretty parts of history. I recommend this book, even though I‘m not done yet! I‘ll post updates as I go 😉

pickSome of the narrating was a little distracting, but in general I enjoyed this, even the parts I knew already. Something I didn't know: some Sikh men moved to the California to work (in the 1910s I think?), married Mexican wives and had kids who eventually spoke Spanish and some Punjabi. How awesome is that? Definitely worth a read/listen if you want a more inclusive (and engrossing) history of the US.
Listening to Thomas Jefferson on his calculations of the value of a baby is horrifying.
Just started this. Hmm, I hope it's good. 18.5 hours is pretty long for me, but I liked his introduction so I'm diving in. Err, once I finish a few others.
