1️⃣ The many things I learned from HB, the author of this book & one of my all-time leaders/mentors would take too much space but 3 are 1) Lead with your values & don‘t work for a company if your values don‘t match. 2) Put people over profits—a true leader serves people. 3) Build relationships & “trust banks” first.

so-so

This is not a book I would typically pick-up but someone gave it to my husband as a gift. Published in 2009 it really stresses how Starbucks culture is all about treating patrons with respect and positivity. The importance of building strong community relationships is highlighted. Given the press the company has received in the past couple of years these words all fell flat. Maybe it‘s time the company learns from it‘s failures.

#90sSpringFling. It was about the coffee in this pic, the only one I had available-circa '94, when I was a SBUX store manager & on the 'Star Team' to open/transition Boston. Not what I'd wear to the spring dance, but I did love that sweater-even though I'd worn it for about 24 hours when I went from PDX to Boston, but my luggage went from PDX to Peoria.😬Luckily my roommate on the far right loaned me a fresh tee-shirt for the opening party...

DebinHawaii ...even though neither of us knew each other or that we were sharing rooms. We both later ended up in SBUX International, opening up markets all over Asia-Pacific & beyond & are still good friends 25-years later.👭❤️ P.S. My suitcase had my hair products & tools inside it too... 🤣😱🤣 (edited) 5y

Day21 #FeistyFeb #workplacesetting I worked for & with Starbucks Coffee for 12 years: store management, moving into training/HR & the International Department-helping open & support markets in Asia Pacific, UK & beyond, before leaving & coming here to work w/the group that opened the Hawaii market. It's always interesting to read books set in the SBUX workplace (especially those of one of my best bosses Howard Behar) & compare w/my experience.☕️📚

It's Not About the Coffee is so much of what he taught me about being a leader-love the book & the man!💚 7y

DebinHawaii @RadicalReader Hah! It's been so long since I made a drink--over 10 years since I worked with them & when I was in the stores, the drink menu was not even close to what it is now-so I'm not sure. Honestly, the hardest drink was probably teaching some of our more detail-oriented Int'l markets like Japan how to make a free pour cappuccino. They wanted to add a scale by the bar to weigh each one to make sure they were consistent. 😀👍 7y

DebinHawaii @RadicalReader The basic ones yes I remember the recipes from making & teaching them & I still make lattes & cappuccinos on home & other espresso machines now but the equipment has changed quite a bit too since I worked on it so I doubt I would be quick about it if I were trying to do it in a store. 7y

DebinHawaii @RadicalReader is 'fifteen' the difference? A free pour means you pour in the milk & foam versus scooping a bunch of dry foam on top. Free pours when the milk is steamed correctly result in a better drink with smooth and light foam & better distribution of the espresso in the cup. 7y

RadicalReader @DebinHawaii seems like an incredibly difficult drink. When you make the hot chocolates somebody told me the chocolate drizzle that goes on top in the squeeze bottle is different than the one use to make the hot chocolate then someone told me it was the same just easier to pour. 7y

SaraFair Our little town is just now building our first stand alone Starbucks. Looking forward to having a place to meet up with folks, however I don't like all the politics bringing me down. Just keep perkin'! 7y
