In 2004 Iraq nothing is quite as it seems. King conveys the moral complexity of the American occupation while building a suspenseful story. Mitch Gerad's art perfectly captures the heat, blood, and smoke.

Bae isn't much of a reader but I bought him the first one for xmas and I just remembered I needed to get him the second vol! (The air mattress in the background is bc his buddy is still staying with us 😬)
A fantastic conclusion to one of the best books out there, though I confess that the purposeful anti-climax of the final issue, while clever, isn't satisfying on a guy level. Still, King and Gerads have created one of the all-time great crime comics here, and the second volume is nearly as essential as the first.
